Mphasis, an AI-led, platform-driven technology solutions provider, is supporting an environmental sustainability initiative led by SGBS Unnati Foundation in collaboration with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to contribute to the upkeep of public spaces in Bengaluru.
As part of the initiative, SGBS Unnati Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with BMRCL for the maintenance of Pier Nos. BP-382 to BP-437. The programme will support the upkeep of the designated metro corridor while contributing to cleaner and better-maintained public spaces.
The collaboration brings together BMRCL, SGBS Unnati Foundation and Mphasis through a cross-sector approach involving institutional support, CSR participation and community-oriented implementation. The initiative is aimed at encouraging sustained stewardship of shared urban spaces as Bengaluru continues to grow.
Deepa Nagraj, Senior Vice President and Global Head – ESG, Sparkle Innovation Ecosystem and Communications, Mphasis, said, “Building sustainable communities requires more than individual efforts. It calls for organisations to come together and take shared responsibility for the places in which we live and work. At Mphasis, our CSR efforts are guided by this belief, with partnerships enabling us to support issues that are relevant to the communities around us.” She said the association with SGBS Unnati Foundation and BMRCL would support the upkeep of Bengaluru’s shared spaces while encouraging greater collective responsibility towards the city’s future.
Dr Ramesh Swamy, Director, SGBS Unnati Foundation, said, “Meaningful and sustainable community development is possible when organisations come together with a shared sense of responsibility. Our collaboration with Mphasis and BMRCL reflects this approach and will enable us to contribute towards cleaner, better-maintained public spaces and a stronger sense of community ownership in Bengaluru.”
The initiative builds on Mphasis’ wider CSR programmes focused on environmental conservation and community development. Over the years, the company has supported initiatives involving water conservation, lake rejuvenation, afforestation and community welfare through partnerships with social organisations and public institutions.
As part of its ecological restoration efforts, Mphasis supports the planting and maintenance of 100,000 trees at the Doddasagare Botanical Garden in Karnataka. The company is also contributing to the revival of Bodanahosahalli Lake to improve groundwater recharge, support biodiversity and contribute to Karnataka’s water security efforts.
Mphasis is further supporting the establishment of 1,200 percolation wells across Bengaluru, with the programme targeting the conservation of an estimated 153 million litres of rainwater by 2026. SGBS Unnati Foundation became the first NGO in India to be listed on the Social Stock Exchanges of both NSE and BSE in December 2023. Through the current collaboration, the organisations aim to support Bengaluru’s environmental sustainability and encourage greater participation in the care and maintenance of shared urban spaces.
