Jindal Stainless, India’s leading stainless steel manufacturer, has signed an agreement with the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), recognising the company as an Awarding Body. The recognition will enable Jindal Stainless to develop and offer government-recognised, industry-led qualifications and certification programmes aligned with the evolving skill requirements of the stainless steel ecosystem.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was attended by NCVET Chairperson and Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, Debashree Mukherjee; Secretary to the Council cum Director, NCVET, Lt Col Vikram Singh Bhati; Director – Corporate Affairs, Jindal Stainless,Vijay Sharma; and Head – Stainless Academy, Jindal Stainless, Bhavna Chopra Srikrishna.
NCVET has also approved Jindal Stainless’ first qualification, “Stainless Steel Decorative Pipe & Tube Manufacturing Operator,” under the Capital Goods sector at NSQF Level 4. The qualification will be awarded to trainees who complete the relevant courses. The recognition covers adopted qualifications where training is imparted directly through campuses or training centres owned or fully managed by the organisation.
Commenting on the development, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless, Abhyuday Jindal, said, “India’s manufacturing ambitions cannot be realised through infrastructure and technology alone; they also depend on the capabilities of the people who operate, innovate and build within these systems. As the nature of industrial work evolves, the relationship between government, industry and the institutions that prepare people for it must evolve as well. Stainless Academy was established with this larger purpose in mind, and its recognition by NCVET marks an important step in giving industry a stronger role in shaping and recognising the capabilities that India’s stainless steel sector will need.”
The recognition builds on Jindal Stainless’ work through Stainless Academy, its education and skilling initiative focused on developing a skilled blue- and white-collar workforce for the stainless steel sector. Since its inception, the Academy has undertaken industry-aligned training, curriculum development and specialised programmes for ITIs, polytechnics and engineering colleges, while also supporting MSME cluster development. With NCVET recognition, Jindal Stainless can further develop qualifications and certification programmes covering the practical requirements of stainless steel manufacturing, processing, fabrication and applications.
Vijay Sharma, Director – Corporate Affairs, Jindal Stainless, said, “At Jindal Stainless, Stainless Academy has evolved beyond conventional training to work across academic institutions, MSMEs, fabricators and other stakeholders across the stainless steel value chain. The NCVET recognition gives us the opportunity to bring greater structure to this work and create a platform that brings together industry, academia and Government in developing skills that are aligned with the sector’s evolving requirements.” The initiative is aimed at addressing workforce readiness gaps among fabricators, workers, employers and students while strengthening collaboration between industry, academia and Government.
Jindal Stainless reported an annual turnover of INR 42,955 crore (USD 4.86 billion) in FY26 and has an annual melt capacity of 4.2 million tonnes. As of March 2026, the company had 16 stainless steel manufacturing and processing facilities in India and abroad, including Spain and Indonesia, with a worldwide network spanning 12 countries.
