Shyam Sel and Power Commissions 8.90 MWp Captive Solar Power Project at Jamuria Plant

Shyam Sel and Power Limited (SSPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited, has commissioned an 8.90 MWp captive solar power project at its manufacturing facility in Jamuria, West Bengal. The project marks another milestone in the company’s efforts to expand the use of renewable energy across its operations while improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.

The newly commissioned solar facility has been developed to meet the captive power requirements of the Jamuria manufacturing plant, supporting the company’s strategy of integrating clean energy into its production processes. The project is expected to help optimize electricity costs, enhance energy security and contribute to the company’s long-term sustainability objectives.

The total installed capacity of the solar power project stands at 8.90 MWp and has been executed through a combination of capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) models. Of the total capacity, 4.60 MWp has been developed under the CAPEX model, while the remaining 4.30 MWp has been implemented through the OPEX model. This hybrid approach enables the company to balance efficient capital deployment with long-term operational savings while accelerating the adoption of renewable energy.

The captive solar project is part of Shyam Metalics’ broader commitment to responsible manufacturing and environmental stewardship. By increasing the share of renewable energy in its power mix, the company aims to lower its dependence on conventional energy sources and reduce its overall environmental footprint.

Commenting on the development, Brij Bhushan Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited, said the commissioning of the solar power project reflects the company’s continued focus on sustainable manufacturing practices and the transition to cleaner energy. He noted that the adoption of both CAPEX and OPEX execution models provides an effective balance between capital efficiency and long-term cost optimization while supporting the company’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The solar installation is expected to play an important role in enhancing operational efficiency by supplying renewable power for captive consumption at the Jamuria facility. It also aligns with the company’s strategy of strengthening its energy infrastructure through investments in environmentally sustainable technologies.
