Vedanta Power Limited, one of India’s leading private thermal power producers, has received a rating upgrade from CRISIL, with its guaranteed long-term bank facilities upgraded to CRISIL AA+ (CE)/Stable from CRISIL AA (CE). The rating agency has also removed the company from ‘Rating Watch with Developing Implications’, while reaffirming its standalone long-term rating at CRISIL AA-/Stable and short-term rating at CRISIL A1+.

The rating upgrade reflects Vedanta Power’s strengthened financial position following the successful completion of the Vedanta Group’s demerger, along with its diversified power generation portfolio, stable operating performance and strategic importance within India’s energy sector.

CRISIL recognised the company’s strong business fundamentals, supported by a balanced portfolio of thermal power assets, long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), secure fuel supply arrangements, healthy liquidity position and continued financial flexibility. The rating action also acknowledges Vedanta Power’s ability to maintain operational efficiency and financial discipline while supporting India’s growing energy requirements.

Vedanta Power currently operates a diversified portfolio of thermal power plants across key locations in India. Its assets include the 1,980 MW Talwandi Sabo Thermal Power Plant in Punjab, the 600 MW Jharsuguda Thermal Power Plant in Odisha, the 1,000 MW Meenakshi Energy Limited plant in Andhra Pradesh, and the 600 MW Sakti Thermal Power Plant in Chhattisgarh. The company’s generation capacity is expected to increase further with the commissioning of an additional 600 MW unit at the Sakti Thermal Power Plant during the current fiscal year.

CRISIL noted that Vedanta Power’s credit profile is supported by its geographically diversified generation capacity, long-term and medium-term power contracts, fuel security covering a significant portion of its operational capacity and strong liquidity position. The agency also highlighted that the post-demerger structure provides greater strategic focus and enhances financial flexibility across the group’s businesses.

The upgraded rating reinforces Vedanta Power’s position as a reliable and diversified power producer with strategically located assets and a strong operational foundation. The company continues to focus on improving efficiency, maintaining prudent financial management and delivering sustainable value for its stakeholders.

Commenting on the development, Vedanta Power said the recognition reflects the company’s continued commitment to operational excellence, responsible power generation and strengthening India’s energy security. With a focus on reliability, efficiency and sustainable growth, Vedanta Power remains committed to supporting customers, partners and communities through dependable energy solutions.
