As Punjab enters the crucial paddy transplantation season, Vedanta Power Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant is strengthening the state’s power infrastructure by ensuring reliable electricity supply during one of the most demanding periods of the year. With agricultural activity intensifying and summer temperatures continuing to drive consumption, the plant remains a key contributor to maintaining uninterrupted power availability across the state.
Punjab’s paddy cultivation season significantly increases electricity consumption due to extensive irrigation requirements. Combined with seasonal cooling demand, the state is expected to witness a sharp rise in power usage in the coming weeks. After recording a peak demand of around 17,161 MW during the previous financial year, Punjab is anticipated to experience a further increase of 4–6 percent this season, taking demand close to the 18,000 MW mark.
Against this backdrop, dependable thermal power generation continues to play an important role in balancing the grid and supporting uninterrupted electricity supply for agriculture, industry, businesses, and residential consumers. Located at Banawali village near Mansa, Vedanta Power Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant has emerged as one of Punjab’s most critical power assets. With an installed capacity of 1,980 MW, the facility contributes nearly 35 percent of the state’s electricity requirements and serves as a major source of dependable baseload power.
The plant has reported a notable increase in operational utilization, with Plant Load Factor (PLF) rising by approximately 4–5 percent compared to FY 2025-26. The higher utilization reflects the growing need for reliable electricity generation as power demand continues to climb across the region.
To support uninterrupted operations during the peak season, the company has maintained adequate coal stocks in accordance with Central Electricity Authority guidelines and directives issued by the Punjab State Load Dispatch Centre. The availability of sufficient fuel reserves enables the facility to operate efficiently while supporting grid stability during periods of elevated demand.
With paddy transplantation activities commencing across districts such as Mansa, Barnala, Moga, Sangrur, Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Nawanshahr, and Malerkotla, the plant completed all maintenance and preparedness activities well in advance. Operational teams remain focused on ensuring high availability and consistent generation performance throughout the agricultural season.
Vedanta Power Talwandi Sabo reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Punjab’s agricultural productivity, industrial growth, and economic development through dependable power generation. As the state navigates another demanding cultivation cycle, the plant remains prepared to deliver round-the-clock electricity and contribute to a stable and secure energy ecosystem.
