Lubrizol and Polyhose have inaugurated a new medical manufacturing facility in Chennai, marking a significant step in strengthening India’s medical technology manufacturing capabilities. The new facility will focus on the production of precision extruded medical tubing used in minimally invasive medical devices, supporting growing demand from healthcare and medical device manufacturers in India and international markets.
The facility combines Lubrizol’s expertise in specialty materials and medical technologies with Polyhose’s manufacturing capabilities and experience in fluid conveyance systems. Designed to meet global quality and regulatory requirements, the site is certified to ISO 13485 standards, reinforcing its commitment to producing high-performance medical components for critical healthcare applications.
The Chennai facility has been established to provide customers with a dependable domestic source of precision-engineered medical tubing while maintaining the stringent quality, testing and manufacturing standards followed across Lubrizol’s global operations. The investment is expected to enhance supply chain reliability for medical device manufacturers and reduce lead times for customers across the region.
Operations at the facility will focus on the extrusion of medical tubing using a broad range of advanced materials. These include polyamides, nylon, polypropylene, polyethylene, Pebax® elastomers and Lubrizol’s medical-grade thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). These materials are widely used in the manufacture of catheters, guidewires, delivery systems and other minimally invasive medical devices that require precision, flexibility and durability.
The launch comes at a time when India is actively working to expand its domestic medical device manufacturing ecosystem. Increasing investments in healthcare infrastructure, rising demand for advanced medical treatments and government initiatives promoting local manufacturing have created opportunities for companies to establish world-class production capabilities within the country.
