Private participation in eMobility need of the hour, EMF Workshop starts at Gurgaon

Faster implementation of eMobility in the country is a hot topic and Electric Mobility Forum’s workshop on the Corporate Adoption of Electric Vehicles in Indian Cities got started by the opening remarks by Amit Bhatt, Project Director – Transport WRI India at Zone by The Park, Gurugram. In the opening plenary Neeraj Chibba of Nagarro Gurgaon, Vikash Mishra of Lithium Urban Technologies addressed the delegates about the opportunities and challenges in the Corporate eMobility Transport. The workshop is part of the Electric Mobility Forum and is supported by Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation.

Addressing the delegates Amit Bhatt spoke “We look forward Governments to create policies for the faster growth of EVs in the country. But the participation of private players is going to play the key role in the Indian eMobility revolution”. He added, “In this workshop, we will explore the opportunities in the Corporate Adoption of eMobility and also learn from the experts who already implemented it”.

Globally Lithium Urban Technologies is the largest private mobility operator outside China and is collaborating with several Corporates in the country by offering EVs for employee transport across the country. “Future of mobility is electric, shared and connected, Lithium Urban Technologies started its journey in 2014, understanding this aspect”, says Vikash.

He also spoke about range anxiety which is coming down with newer models of EVs getting introduced in the market. “With more and more players, we expect the development of battery charging infra in the country”, he shares. He also raised the concern that none of their customers are able to take the benefit of electric unit charges from different DISCOMs due to the lack of coordination and clarity.

Nagarrao is a global IT leader is already moved to EVs in their Corporate Transport in association with Lithium Urban Technologies. There were several concerns before the adoption of EVs in their corporate fleet, shared Neeraj Chibba of Nagarro. He added, “We had several meetings with Lithium to clear out all the concerns like battery charge, range issues while adopting EVs in our corporate transport”.

During the workshop, four sessions are planned. Moderated by Amit Bhatt, “Electrification of Employee Mobility Services” will discuss various business models for employee transport services and its Status, Challenges and Opportunities. Special emphasis on charging infrastructure and government initiatives for accelerating corporate electric vehicles in India will be discussed and Sant Sharan Singh of  TATA Motors, Akash Gupta of Mobycy, Manoj Gupta of JBM Motors and Gargi Ghosh of Yulu Bikes will be taking part in the panel discussion.

In the second session “Electrification of Delivery Services”, where a lot of players are already exploring the opportunities will be discussed. Various new and emerging delivery services and their experiences so far, challenges and expectations from the government and financial institutions and their strategies to expand further will be part of the panel discussion which will be attended by Balram Narayankar, ETO Motors and Neeta Bajpai of Go with Dot.

An interactive session on Challenges in procuring EVs facilitated by Shravani Sharma of WRI India will give participants a hands-on exercise on how can companies procure EVs looking at the economic, financial, sustainable aspects and their overall impacts on their existing ecosystem. This aims to bring major stakeholders from various backgrounds together to work towards an achievable goal towards the adoption of EVs in India.

In the concluding session “Accelerating EV’ will discuss barriers related to Policy and regulations, technical feasibility, planning, and implementation, performance indicators, etc. particularly for charging infrastructure and what are the ways in which these could be tackled for a smooth transition. Moderated by Parveen Kumar of WRI India this session focuses on providing solutions to the key challenges that were discussed in the above sessions and will be attended by Abhishek Ranjan of BRPL, Mohd Sahil Ali of Brookings, Vikram Parekh of Yes Bank and Shadab Mobin, CEO of ANDCinstart Foundation. In addition, there is also a mini-exhibition of electric mobility options from 6-8PM IST on the same day, followed by networking and dinner.
