  • Times are changing and women can manage shop floor operations with ease & diligence
  • Representation of girls in Engineering colleges taking a positive turn and gender disparity is getting bridged
  • An inclusive work environment is a key to a bright future in the manufacturing sector

Revati Nitin Bhavsar is an Electronics Engineer by profession and is currently working as Technical Executive at Pune Techtrol Private Limited. With sheer diligence and hard work, Revati has added many feathers to her cap as a woman engineer while continuing to enjoy her work and learn new skills in the process.

Born in Sholapur, Revati was keen on joining engineering since her younger days. Today, she counts her blessings for encouraging parents who had always inspired her to pursue Electronic Engineering. Even during strenuous times, Revati knew that no obstacles can deter her from becoming a successful engineer.

Keeping alive this grit and determination, she had managed to complete engineering and carve a path for herself.  “I have been passionate about studying engineering from a young age, and firm about t working in this sector irrespective of the daunting challenges”, says Revati.

Family support imperative for women in the manufacturing

Initially, Revati was appointed as a supervisor in a company where her work was primarily spread across the shop floor. Seeing the buzz of confident women employees managing the shop floor operations was a pleasant experience for Revati. She reflects, “There is a lot of women willing to join the workforce in manufacturing given the right opportunity and support.”

Looking back at her accomplishments, she acknowledges her privilege of getting full support from her parents and in-laws. She strongly opines how necessary it is for families to be the bedrock and uplift women. Recounting from personal experience Revati is convinced that lack of family support is one of the primary detriments that keep Indian women from joining engineering, once they receive it. Revati could savour professional success simultaneously shouldering her children’s responsibilities without giving up on work-life balance because she could lean on her family for support.

Engineering sector is evolving with changing time

Revati recalls her college days where out of 40 -50 students, the number of girl students wavered around a disappointing 4 to 5. “The gender ratio was appalling, and I was practically stunned at the poor representation of girls in engineering course.” Journeying a long way since then, Revati looks forward to the positive changes that have bridged gender disparity to quite an extent.

Revati applauds the girls who are not only excelling in electronic engineering but also intellectually surpassing their peers in mechanical engineering- previously demarcated as a men’s territory, that have provided ample opportunities for women to dive in. Not just colleges but manufacturing companies have also started accommodating women by and large.

Pune Techtrol: Committed towards building quality & skilled workforce

Revati describes the scenario in her organization Pune Techtrol, where women are enthusiastically engaged in the shop floor duties, delivering excellent performances every day.  Women, here, steward complex operations and assemble products as a part of their job profiles.  Pune Techtrol is one of the most reliable & and trusted brands committed to delivering quality products unsurpassed in terms of accuracy, workmanship, performance, safety & ease of installation, providing long uninterrupted service in wide & varied industrial applications.

“The women who work here are very comfortable with their jobs. Pune Techtrol has always assured in building a quality and skilled workforce.”  Revati has proudly partaken in the process of training and monitoring the new recruits to sustain the legacy of skill development and productive output.  Revati is an ardent believer that many other companies too have followed suit and have introduced policies to increase the women in the workforce.

Promote gender equality in companies and at home

Revati believes that the revolution to shun gender inequality should begin. “I have a daughter, and my husband and I strongly discourage her against gendered or prejudiced ways of living life.”  Similarly, she says, nowadays women and men tread on an equal footing not just within the confinements of the home but in offices.

Subsequently, in Indian manufacturing, a sea of drastic changes has surfaced. These reforms are replete with the potential to re-structure the prevalent socio-economic framework and flourish an inclusive workplace environment which is more diligent to accommodate women prodigies.”

Women are sincere, dedicated and focused. Undoubtedly, they are a valuable asset to thriving the Indian manufacturing hub”, Revati concludes on an optimistic note.   She pledges the women who are passionate about engineering to rise above fears, accept challenges and set the pedestal high.
