Yokogawa Electric Corporation has announced that its OpreX Open Automation SI Kit for Open Process Automation systems has achieved certification for conformance with the OPC Unified Architecture profile defined under the Open Process Automation Standard (O-PAS). This marks a significant industry milestone, representing one of the first certifications of its kind within the process automation sector.
The certification, granted by the OPC Foundation, confirms that Yokogawa’s Open Automation SI Kit meets the requirements of the OPC UA client/server communication profile specified in the O-PAS Connectivity Framework. This ensures standardized, secure, and reliable communication across systems, enabling seamless data exchange between components developed by different vendors.
The Open Process Automation initiative, led by the The Open Group Open Process Automation Forum, promotes the development of open, interoperable architectures for industrial control systems. By supporting vendor-independent integration, the framework allows operators to combine hardware and software from multiple suppliers, enhancing flexibility while reducing lifecycle costs.
With this certification, Yokogawa strengthens its position in advancing open automation environments that allow greater scalability and adaptability in industrial operations. Systems built using the certified Open Automation SI Kit can communicate effectively with other compliant components, helping users design and deploy integrated solutions without reliance on a single supplier.
Yokogawa has played an active role in the Open Process Automation Forum, collaborating with industry stakeholders including major energy companies on demonstration projects aimed at validating and refining O-PAS technologies. These initiatives have supported the development, testing, and continuous improvement of open automation systems, contributing to the achievement of this certification.
The company stated that this milestone will support further development of its OpreX portfolio, with a focus on expanding capabilities for open and flexible automation systems. Yokogawa intends to accelerate the practical implementation of O-PAS-based solutions, delivering systems that align with evolving customer requirements for efficiency, reliability, and interoperability.
