Xpeng Motors Eyes European Expansion with Potential EV Plant

China’s Xpeng Motors, a leading company in AI-driven mobility, showcased its latest advancements at an event in Stockholm, Sweden, spotlighting the company’s ambition to strengthen its foothold in Europe. A key highlight was the presentation of its G6 electric SUV, which boasts a range of 469 miles (750 km) and is already sold in countries like Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Denmark.

The G6 is the first vehicle built on Xpeng’s SEPA 2.0 electric platform, which introduces new features like an 800V electric architecture that supports fast DC charging of up to 480kW. During the event, the G6 was autonomously summoned to the stage, showcasing Xpeng’s innovative technology.

Xpeng Motors’s expansion plans for Europe are progressing, with upcoming launches in Spain, Portugal, and the UK in the second half of the year. In Sweden, Xpeng’s dealer network is rapidly growing, with plans to increase its sales outlets from two to 20 by the end of the year.

The G9 SUV, Xpeng’s flagship model, has also been well-received, ranking among the top 10 most-sold large SUVs in Sweden this year. The company emphasizes its continuous over-the-air (OTA) updates, incorporating customer feedback to improve features. In Europe, more than 80% of customer-suggested enhancements have been implemented through these updates.

At the event, Xpeng discussed its potential plans for establishing a manufacturing facility in Europe, reflecting the company’s commitment to the region. Jens Olsen, Executive Manager for Northern Europe, mentioned that an EV plant is being considered, which would create jobs and investment opportunities. Xpeng’s future products will also incorporate pioneering technologies like the Tianji X operating system, XPilot driver assistance, XBrain autonomous driving system, and ultra-fast 800-volt charging.
