Wind River, an Aptiv company and global provider of software solutions for the intelligent edge, has announced that Superheat, a leader in onsite heat treatment technologies, has selected Wind River’s eLxr Pro™ platform to support the next generation of its industrial heat treatment controllers deployed across oil and gas, energy, shipyard, aerospace, and defense sectors. The collaboration is aimed at advancing Superheat’s proprietary wireless remote heat treatment systems, which are designed to operate reliably in demanding field environments while meeting strict requirements for security, system integrity, and long-term operational performance.

According to the companies, eLxr Pro will provide the hardened Linux foundation needed to support mission-critical industrial applications operating in increasingly regulated industries. Built on the open-source Debian-based eLxr community distribution, eLxr Pro combines commercial-grade maintenance, security hardening, and lifecycle support intended for production-scale deployments.

Superheat’s heat treatment systems are used in highly sensitive industrial operations where reliability, compliance, and continuous performance are essential. The adoption of eLxr Pro is expected to support secure deployment, maintenance, and software updates across extended operational lifecycles while maintaining high levels of system stability and cybersecurity.

Sandeep Modhvadia, Chief Product Officer at Wind River, said the partnership reflects the growing demand for secure and dependable software infrastructure in industrial environments. “With Wind River’s technology foundation, Superheat can continue to expand its advanced heat treatment solutions while meeting stringent requirements for safety, quality, and system reliability. The collaboration will help accelerate innovation, improve operational efficiency, and support secure industrial deployments,” he said.

Ryan Barnes, Director of IT at Superheat, noted that industrial, aerospace, and defense customers are operating under increasingly rigorous compliance and cybersecurity expectations. “As security and operational standards continue to evolve, eLxr Pro provides the hardened Linux environment required to support our mission-critical systems across highly regulated industries,” Mr Barnes said.

The companies added that eLxr Pro’s comprehensive Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) coverage will allow Superheat to proactively manage security risks throughout the device lifecycle, from deployment through long-term operation and maintenance. The platform also supports cryptographic implementations aligned with aerospace and defense compliance standards.

Superheat stated that its long-term strategy is focused on modernizing onsite heat treatment operations through remote operation, real-time monitoring, and data-driven quality management. By integrating digital technologies into field operations, the company aims to improve project efficiency, reduce downtime, enhance safety, and deliver greater schedule certainty for customers worldwide. Wind River has more than four decades of experience developing software platforms for industries requiring high levels of safety, reliability, and security, including automotive, aerospace, defense, telecommunications, medical, and industrial sectors.
