Wibu-Systems has officially inaugurated WIBU-SYSTEMS India Pvt Ltd, marking a new phase in its business operations in India. The launch took place on October 15, 2026, in Bengaluru, with VDMA India organising the event. The company aims to strengthen its engagement with Indian software developers, industrial manufacturers, technology companies and business partners.

The event brought together Oliver Winzenried, Co-founder and CEO of Wibu-Systems AG, specialists from the company’s German headquarters, the Indian leadership team and representatives from India’s industrial and technology sectors. Discussions focused on software protection, licensing and opportunities to develop software-based business models.

The Indian subsidiary is based in Hyderabad and will provide local access to Wibu-Systems’ technologies and expertise in software intellectual property (IP) protection and licensing. The company plans to work with software vendors, intelligent device manufacturers, industrial enterprises and technology partners as demand grows for secure software and digital products.

India and Germany have developed strong economic ties, with cooperation expanding across manufacturing, engineering, research and development, and digital technologies. Bilateral merchandise trade reached approximately USD 35.4 billion in 2025, while total bilateral foreign direct investment stood at around USD 30.4 billion in 2024. More than 2,000 German companies operate in India.

Wibu-Systems’ local presence is intended to strengthen links between its German technology base and India’s growing software and industrial ecosystem. The company expects the subsidiary to support closer customer engagement, business development and cooperation with Indian technology companies.

Oliver Winzenried said India has strong engineering capabilities and growing potential to develop its own software intellectual property and software-enabled products. He said the new subsidiary would provide a local base for long-term cooperation while connecting Indian customers with the company’s research, technology and expertise in Germany.

A key part of Wibu-Systems’ offering is CodeMeter, a technology platform that combines software protection with licensing and entitlement management. The platform enables developers to protect software and firmware against unauthorised copying, manipulation and reverse engineering. Manufacturers can use it to control access to specific product functions, while software businesses can establish different commercial models based on customer requirements.

These models include perpetual licences, subscriptions, feature-based licensing and usage-based pricing. The technology can also support software-enabled services, allowing companies to develop revenue streams around their products and technical expertise. The platform is designed to help businesses protect their intellectual property while managing how customers access and use software features.

WIBU-SYSTEMS India Pvt Ltd is led by Dr. Ashok-Kumar Chandra-Sekaran, who oversees business development in India while maintaining a close connection with the company’s headquarters in Karlsruhe, Germany. Dr Chandra-Sekaran said the Indian operation would work directly with customers and partners to understand their products, licensing requirements and commercial priorities. He added that the company intends to support businesses from the initial licensing design stage through deployment and ongoing operations.

The subsidiary’s Board of Directors comprises Dr Ashok-Kumar Chandra-Sekaran, Elke Winzenried and Ravi Ladia. The launch event was held at The Park on MG Road in Bengaluru. The invitation-only programme included discussions with company executives and specialists, practical sessions on software protection and licensing, and a live demonstration of CodeMeter.

Wibu-Systems develops hardware and software solutions for protecting digital assets and managing software licences. Its CodeMeter suite serves software publishers and intelligent device manufacturers across multiple industries and computing platforms, addressing risks such as piracy, tampering, reverse engineering and cyberattacks. With its Indian subsidiary, the company plans to build closer relationships with local businesses as software becomes an increasingly important source of intellectual property, product differentiation and revenue.
