Waaree Group, a major player in India’s clean-energy sector, has confirmed a new order for a 10 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) from a prominent infrastructure developer. The system will be implemented in Tamil Nadu as part of the state’s expanding renewable integration strategy.
This order reinforces Waaree Group’s increasing influence in India’s energy storage landscape and highlights the company’s capabilities across the full clean-energy spectrum, including solar module manufacturing, EPC execution, advanced storage solutions, green hydrogen technologies, and utility-scale infrastructure.
The company is also accelerating local battery production through a 4 GWh cell manufacturing line and a 5 GWh pack-and-container facility, enabling it to supply high-quality, fully Indian-made storage systems at scale for both commercial & industrial users and grid-level projects. Energy storage is emerging as a critical enabler for India’s next phase of solar expansion. One of its most important roles is ensuring round-the-clock renewable power by balancing solar variability. With battery energy storage systems (BESS), unused electricity during high-generation periods can be stored and supplied later, reducing curtailment and improving the overall efficiency of solar assets.
Storage also plays a pivotal role in strengthening grid stability. As renewable penetration increases, fluctuations in supply become more common, especially during evening peaks. BESS helps smooth these variations, supports peak demand, and provides a buffer that enhances the resilience and reliability of the national grid.
Another key driver is the rapid growth of electric mobility. As EV adoption increases, large-scale storage will be needed to support fast-charging networks, manage load spikes, and prevent stress on local distribution systems. This makes storage essential not only for renewable energy integration but also for the future of clean transportation.
For India, storage is a cornerstone of long-term energy security. As domestic solar and battery manufacturing ecosystems expand, BESS strengthens the country’s ability to rely on clean, indigenous energy sources. This positions storage as a foundational technology in India’s broader clean-energy strategy.
Tamil Nadu illustrates this momentum. With over 20 GW of installed solar and wind capacity, the state is actively deploying grid-connected storage solutions to better manage variable generation. Its recent 1.5 GWh standalone BESS tender signals a strong acceleration in adoption. National studies by NEP, MNRE, and CEA further project that India will require tens to hundreds of gigawatt-hours of storage between the late 2020s and early 2030s, with rapid installation growth expected from FY 2026–27 onward.
“This 10 MWh storage project is a strong validation of Waaree Group’s integrated strengths and our commitment to advancing India’s clean-energy transformation. Energy storage is the next major phase in renewable growth, and we continue to invest in design, technology, and manufacturing to build reliable, future-focused solutions,” said Ankit Doshi, President – Strategy. “This deployment in Tamil Nadu underscores our goal of strengthening grid resilience and supporting large-scale renewable adoption.”
With advanced manufacturing capabilities, an expanding R&D ecosystem, and a broad clean-energy portfolio, Waaree Group is positioned to deliver dependable, scalable storage solutions aligned with state and national renewable targets. The company’s 4 GWh cell line and 5 GWh pack facility further enhance its ability to meet India’s rising utility-scale storage needs with fully localised, high-performance products.
