Middlesex-based Viking Precision Engineers Ltd has committed £1.6 million to establish a dedicated turning facility equipped with four Quick Turn 250 lathes from Yamazaki Mazak UK Ltd. The investment strengthens Viking’s machining capabilities and builds on long-standing customer relationships, including contracts with London Underground, as well as its aerospace portfolio.

The new turning centre complements the company’s existing CNC milling operations, which include advanced multi-axis and vertical machining centres. The expansion enables Viking to produce high-volume, small, precision-turned components, including tribology-based parts used in advanced lubrication and friction testing systems supporting sustainable and reusable energy technologies.

Manufactured at Mazak’s European plant in Worcester, the Quick Turn 250 MSY models feature integrated milling, twin spindles, and Y-axis capability, allowing complex multi-tasking operations within a single setup. Viking’s longstanding partnership with Mazak ensures consistent control systems across facilities, simplifying operator training and workflow integration.

Company leaders highlighted the flexibility gained from combining large-scale machining with intricate, tight-tolerance turning work. Alan Mucklow, Managing Director UK and National Distributors at Yamazaki Mazak, described the investment as a testament to a long-term partnership built on shared engineering standards and continued collaboration.Viking Precision Engineers is a specialized manufacturing company focused on high-precision engineering components and assemblies for industrial applications.
