Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal Meets Odisha CM Shri Mohan Charan Majhi

Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta Group, met with Odisha’s new Chief Minister, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, to congratulate him on forming the new government and discuss the state’s development.

Mr Agarwal reaffirmed Vedanta Group’s commitment to Odisha’s progress. They talked about new areas for collaboration to boost the state’s industrial and socio-economic growth.

Mr Agarwal expressed confidence in the new government’s vision and leadership, saying, “Odisha’s growth reflects the hard work of its people. The state is vital to Vedanta’s success, and we are committed to its sustainable development. My meeting with Shri Majhi was very productive, and we discussed our shared vision for Odisha’s growth. Under his leadership, our partnership will thrive, driving the state to greater heights.”

Vedanta Group has invested over INR 1,00,000 crore in Odisha, its largest investment globally. This includes the world’s largest integrated aluminium smelter plant at Jharsuguda with a capacity of 1.8 MTPA and a top-class alumina refinery at Lanjigarh in Kalahandi district with a capacity of 3.5 MTPA. These projects have created over one lakh jobs, boosting prosperity in remote areas and integrating local communities into the mainstream economy.

During the Make in Odisha 2022 event, Mr. Agarwal announced new investments of more than INR 25,000 crore to expand Vedanta’s aluminium, ferrochrome, and mining businesses in the state.

Vedanta’s community initiatives in Odisha include livelihood, education, healthcare, infrastructure, sports, and culture, benefiting over 4.5 lakh people in 500 villages.

Vedanta Aluminium, a division of Vedanta Limited, is India’s largest aluminium producer, making over half of India’s aluminium at 2.37 million tonnes in FY23. It leads in value-added aluminium products used in core industries.

Vedanta Aluminium ranks first in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2023 for the aluminium industry, showcasing its sustainable practices. The company aims to advance aluminium as the ‘Metal of the Future’ for a greener tomorrow.
