Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer and the country’s leading billet manufacturer, announced the launch of its new 5-inch aluminium billets at ALUMEX India 2025, the nation’s first dedicated aluminium extrusion exhibition and conference. Developed to address the rising demand for precision-engineered aluminium, the 5-inch billets are designed for critical applications across industries such as automotive, aerospace, HVAC, and building and construction.
They can be used to produce small-to-medium profiles, seamless tubes, condenser tubes, electrical busbars, rods, handles, and hollow profiles like window frames, heat sinks, and irrigation tubes. They may also be cut into slugs for forging automotive and aerospace components.
With this launch, Vedanta Aluminium now offers a billet portfolio ranging from 5 to 12 inches, fully customizable to diverse industry requirements. The company emphasized its advanced process controls, metallurgical quality, and strong supply chain network, ensuring reliable performance and superior product consistency.
Alongside the product launch, Vedanta Aluminium unveiled its capacity expansion roadmap, targeting an increase from 580 KTPA to 1.25 MTPA, with a goal to join the global one million tonne billet club. Already commanding over 50% of the domestic billet market, Vedanta aims to expand its share of value-added products to 90% of its portfolio, catering to high-growth sectors such as electric mobility, solar energy, railways, aerospace, and defence.
Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said “The introduction of our 5-inch billets marks another milestone in strengthening India’s aluminium extrusion ecosystem. Their versatility across industries will enable downstream sectors to achieve greater precision, performance, and sustainability. As India’s largest billet producer and among the top three globally, we remain committed to scaling capacity, driving innovation, and positioning India as a leader in the global aluminium value chain.”
Vedanta Aluminium operates state-of-the-art smelters with a total capacity of 2.37 MTPA, including facilities at Jharsuguda, Odisha (1.8 MTPA) and BALCO, Korba, Chhattisgarh (0.57 MTPA). Its extensive billet portfolio spans the 1xxx, 3xxx, and 6xxx series and includes low-carbon variants under its Restora and Restora Ultra brands. These premium-grade products are produced using renewable energy and recovered aluminium, ranking among the lowest carbon footprint billets globally. At ALUMEX India 2025, Vedanta Aluminium is showcasing its next-generation billets manufactured using advanced technologies like Wagstaff Hot-Top Air Slip casting and Hertwich homogenizing furnaces, engineered to deliver consistency, higher recovery, and superior metallurgical properties.
