The latest offering from Vanzetti Engineering is the ESK-IMO series of retractable submerged pumps. These pumps find application in Small-Scale LNG Terminals, as well as serving as Emergency pumps or Cargo/Stripping pumps in the marine sector. One of the key benefits of the ESK-IMO pumps is their easy maintenance, which can be carried out without the necessity of tank draining and reclamation. Vanzetti Engineering expands its product range by introducing the new ESK-IMO retractable series of submerged pumps.
This new series features flow rates ranging from 70 m3/hr to 500 m3/hr and a head of up to 240m. Derived entirely from the ARTIKA Series, the ESK-IMO pump inherits the proven reliability and quality of its predecessor, which is already well-established in the market. The ESK-IMO Series finds applications in both industrial and marine fields. In industrial settings, it is used in small-scale terminals with capacities of less than 1 MTPA (million tonnes per year).
In the marine field, the retractable pumps serve as emergency pumps or cargo/stripping pumps for emptying tanks during malfunctions or necessary maintenance on the main pumps. Unlike the ARTIKA Series, which is installed directly at the tank bottom or inside a cryostat, the ESK-IMO retractable pump is housed inside a column isolated from the tank by a foot valve. This design allows the liquefied natural gas to remain confined in the tank outside the column, enabling the pump’s removal by simply opening a cover at the top of the column.
Vanzetti Engineering offers the new retractable submerged pump series with all the necessary accessories for operation, including the foot valve, column cover, lifting cables for pump removal, and electrical connectors. An optional vibration monitoring system is also available to display and signal any malfunction alarms. A notable feature of the ESK-IMO retractable pump is its ability to undergo maintenance without requiring the tank to be emptied.
This added value is particularly significant considering that small-scale LNG terminal tanks have maintenance intervals exceeding twenty-five years. The ability to remove the pump for maintenance without taking the tank out of service makes the process quicker and easier for both users and terminals, while also mitigating potential risks. In the marine industry, the ESK-IMO Series offers enhanced flexibility for maintenance operations, enabling the draining of atmospheric tanks (operating under 1 bar pressure) for tank or pump servicing.
Additionally, the ESK-IMO pump’s compact design eliminates the need for significant space above the tank, making it suitable for below-deck environments. The Small-Scale LNG Terminal and marine markets are witnessing unprecedented growth, particularly in the Americas and Southeast Asia. These sectors are becoming pivotal in reshaping global energy and maritime landscapes. With the rising demand for alternative energy and the need to curb emissions, LNG terminals are proving to be a versatile solution, delivering LNG to various sectors such as industrial, commercial, civil, and maritime.
Concurrently, the LNG shipping market is experiencing remarkable expansion. LNG-powered vessels offer a greener alternative to conventional fuels, aiding in emission reduction to meet stricter regulations, thereby driving the need for port infrastructure and specialized terminals. This symbiotic relationship is propelling rapid and sustained growth in both industries, with prospects for further expansion. The new ESK-IMO Series is strategically positioned to capitalize on these trends.
Established in 1984, Vanzetti Engineering S.p.A. operates as an Italian company specializing in the design and production of cryogenic equipment for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and air gases. The company’s product range caters to downstream applications in the LNG sector. Inaugurated in 2015, its new facility spanning 12,000 m2 accommodates its cryogenic pump and skid production departments, significantly enhancing the company’s manufacturing capacity.
Leveraging its extensive expertise, Vanzetti Engineering has developed a comprehensive portfolio of cryogenic pumps and components for key sectors such as Marine, Automotive, and Industrial. The company’s solutions find applications in various fields, including marine engine fuel systems, ship refuelling, LNG/L-CNG refuelling stations, and transfer systems for road trailers and stationary storage tanks.
Additionally, they are used in satellite stations providing power supply and support to gas pipeline networks, including power generation plants, as well as in the medium and high-pressure filling of air gas cylinders (nitrogen, argon, oxygen) for industrial, food, and medical purposes.
