Uno Minda Limited has announced its entry into the four-wheeler passenger vehicle seating systems segment with plans to establish a new manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The company’s Board of Directors has approved an investment of nearly ₹320 crore for the greenfield project, which is scheduled to commence commercial operations in the fourth quarter of FY2027-28.
The new facility will be developed through Uno Minda Tachi-S Seating Private Limited, the company’s joint venture with Japan-based TACHI-S Company Limited, a globally recognised manufacturer of automotive seating systems. The expansion marks a significant milestone in Uno Minda’s strategy to strengthen its presence in high-value automotive components and increase its contribution to the passenger vehicle segment.
Uno Minda’s partnership with TACHI-S began in September 2022 with the production of seat recliners for passenger vehicles. Building on the success of that collaboration, the joint venture is now expanding into the design and manufacture of complete seating systems, enabling the company to move further up the automotive value chain and enhance its product portfolio.
The company has already secured an initial order from a leading passenger vehicle manufacturer, providing early validation of its capabilities in engineering, product development and manufacturing. The order is expected to support capacity utilisation at the new facility while reinforcing Uno Minda’s position as a trusted supplier to original equipment manufacturers.
Commenting on the development, Ravi Mehra, Managing Director of Uno Minda Limited, said the company’s entry into complete passenger vehicle seating systems represents an important phase in its long-term growth strategy. He noted that the investment will significantly enhance the company’s value per vehicle while expanding its footprint in one of the automotive industry’s most technology-intensive and premium product segments. He added that the new plant reflects Uno Minda’s commitment to strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities and delivering advanced seating solutions that meet the evolving expectations of India’s passenger vehicle market.
