TYASA (Talleres y Aceros SA) has successfully started operations at its new 350,000-tonne-per-year special bar quality (SBQ) plant in Ixtaczoquitlán, Orizaba, Mexico. The complete facility was supplied by Danieli and marks another step in the long-running cooperation between the two companies to expand TYASA’s SBQ production and finishing capabilities.
The new facility is a complete SBQ production complex featuring a modern hot-rolling mill equipped with Danieli’s four-pass, four-roll Draw Sizing Danieli (DSD) sizing block. The complex also includes straightening and peeling lines and a complete water-treatment plant. These systems have been commissioned and are now operational.
The plant also includes a new drawing line and heat-treatment line, which are currently in the final stages of erection. Commissioning began in early April 2026 with cold commissioning activities. These activities were used to verify auxiliary systems, automation sequences and service infrastructure before production began.
The plant rolled its first hot billet on May 25, marking the start of hot testing. On July 6, the first bar passed through the DSD sizing block. The test confirmed dimensional accuracy, stable rolling conditions and reliable operation of the equipment. Following these milestones, TYASA and Danieli signed the Provisional Acceptance Certificate (PAC) on August 4. The certificate confirms that the plant had met the contractual requirements for this stage of the project.
The facility has already produced sellable SBQ products, including bars and flats, during the initial operating period. The project has now entered the performance-testing phase. During this phase, the plant’s production capacity, energy efficiency, operational continuity and metallurgical quality will be assessed as production volumes are gradually increased. The successful completion of performance testing is expected to further establish the production capabilities of the new facility and strengthen TYASA’s position in the SBQ market.
The investment expands TYASA’s ability to produce high-quality special bar products while adding advanced rolling, sizing and finishing technologies to its manufacturing operations. The new plant is also expected to support the company’s continued development of its SBQ product portfolio and manufacturing capabilities.
The successful commissioning represents an important milestone in the cooperation between TYASA and Danieli. With the main production systems now operating, the project is moving from commissioning into performance validation and progressive production ramp-up.
