TRUMPF has introduced the latest generation of its TruPunch 5000 punching machine, adding new monitoring, automation and operating features designed to improve production reliability, productivity and ease of use. The machine is intended to help manufacturers meet growing demand for punched sheet metal components, particularly in the energy and electronics industries. According to TRUMPF, the updated system combines established punching performance with improved digital connectivity and options for automated production.
Daniel Pfisterer, product manager for punching and combination punch-laser machines at TRUMPF Inc., said the new model would help customers manufacture large volumes of components more cost-effectively and with greater automation.A new machine control system, an integrated Vision Equipment Pro camera system and a second monitor provide operators with greater visibility of production activities. The control system sends process and machine-status data to TRUMPF’s Smart View digital service, allowing operators to monitor performance through a dashboard from different locations and identify potential problems before they cause downtime.
Up to 10 integrated cameras can capture images of the machine’s working area. Operators can access these images remotely, including while working at a setup station. The additional monitor can display camera feeds, production information and data from TRUMPF’s Oseon software.
The updated control system also supports easier installation of machine updates without requiring a service technician to be physically present. TRUMPF plans to introduce its Remote Operation Support service for the TruPunch 5000, allowing service personnel to troubleshoot and operate machines remotely. The company said this could help customers manage overnight production runs with fewer onsite support requirements.
The new control system also provides a foundation for artificial intelligence-supported automation. In a planned small-parts sorting application, intelligent cameras identify component positions so a robot can pick up and sort parts without manual programming.
TRUMPF has also revised the machine’s safety concept to reduce operator walking distances and minimise production interruptions. The ToolMaster Linear tool changer now includes an additional display at the setup station, providing tool information to support faster and safer preparation.
The TruPunch 5000 retains the previous model’s performance specifications, including 25 tonnes of punching force and a maximum rate of 1,600 strokes per minute. It can process sheet metal up to 5/16 inches thick and perform forming operations such as embossing and drawing. Its active die technology supports low-scratch surfaces, greater forming heights and reliable processing.
The machine can also be integrated with TRUMPF’s SheetMaster automation and TruBend Center bending systems. A buffer conveyor manages material flow between processing stages, allowing manufacturers to balance production speeds and route components according to individual requirements. TRUMPF will demonstrate the TruPunch 5000 alongside bending technology at FABTECH Las Vegas, at booth C6008.
