TrueRE Oriana Power has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for a 234 MW grid-connected floating solar photovoltaic project in Jharkhand from Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). The project will be developed at the Maithon Dam reservoir and is set to become the largest floating solar installation in the state and among the largest of its kind in India.

The project was awarded through a competitive bidding process conducted by DVC. Once completed, the floating solar facility is expected to generate approximately 500 million units of electricity annually. The plant is also projected to offset nearly 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year by replacing fossil-fuel-based power generation with renewable energy.

In addition to project development, TrueRE Oriana Power will be responsible for operating and maintaining the facility for a period of ten years after commissioning. The initiative forms part of Damodar Valley Corporation’s broader strategy to expand renewable energy generation while strengthening long-term energy security and reducing carbon emissions. Floating solar installations are gaining increasing attention in India because they allow renewable energy generation without requiring additional land resources.

Parveen Jangra, Founder and Chief Technical and Operating Officer of TrueRE Oriana Power, said the project marks a major milestone for floating solar deployment in the country. He noted that such large-scale installations can help optimise the use of water reservoirs while supporting India’s clean energy transition.

Mr Jangra added that the project reflects the company’s engineering capabilities and experience in executing technically complex renewable energy infrastructure. He said TrueRE Oriana Power is committed to delivering the project with high safety standards and operational reliability.

The Maithon Dam floating solar installation will incorporate a specialised anchoring and mooring system designed to maintain structural stability and alignment of solar arrays despite varying water levels and river currents. The design aims to ensure long-term operational performance while meeting strict environmental and engineering requirements.

TrueRE Oriana Power has played an important role in the development of floating solar infrastructure in India. The company earlier developed the first floating solar power plant in Rajasthan and has since expanded its portfolio in this segment with several projects across the country.

Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Noida, TrueRE Oriana Power operates as an integrated renewable energy platform offering solutions across generation, storage and energy consumption enablement. The company currently has around 1 GW of solar capacity either commissioned or under construction, along with a growing pipeline of battery energy storage, green hydrogen and circular energy projects. With operations across 24 states in India and international projects in Africa and other regions, the company continues to expand its role in advancing renewable energy infrastructure and supporting the transition toward sustainable power systems.
