TruAlt Bioenergy has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sumitomo Corporation Asia & Oceania (SCAO) to jointly develop bioenergy projects in India. The collaboration focuses on key sustainable energy areas, including Biogas, Compressed Biogas (CBG), First-Generation (1G) Ethanol, Second-Generation (2G) Ethanol, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and biochemicals derived from the sugar value chain. The partnership will also explore carbon credit initiatives, aligning with the companies’ shared vision of fostering environmental sustainability and innovation in India’s growing bioenergy sector.
This agreement comes at a critical juncture as India intensifies efforts to achieve its renewable energy targets, including 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity and 50% renewable energy consumption by 2030. TruAlt Bioenergy, a leader in the biofuels sector, is well-positioned to support these national goals through its ethanol and CBG initiatives under the SATAT scheme, which aims to promote affordable and sustainable transportation alternatives.
Sumitomo’s extensive global network and expertise in trading and investment will complement TruAlt’s biofuels expertise, enabling the partnership to scale effectively and deliver impactful energy solutions. Vijay Nirani, Founder and Managing Director of TruAlt Bioenergy, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “This collaboration marks a pivotal step in driving India’s clean energy transition. With Sumitomo’s international capabilities and our commitment to innovative biofuels, we aim to address critical challenges in decarbonization and energy security while advancing toward India’s net-zero ambitions.”
TruAlt Bioenergy, recognized as India’s largest ethanol producer by installed capacity, also leads in compressed biogas production through its subsidiary, Leafiniti Bioenergy. It was among the pioneers in adopting the SATAT scheme introduced by the Indian government in 2018.
Sumitomo Corporation Asia & Oceania, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation Japan, operates across 25 offices in 14 countries.
