Tata Power announced on Monday that its subsidiary TP Solar has exceeded 4 GW in solar module production at its Tirunelveli facility in Tamil Nadu. As of May 31, 2025, the facility has manufactured a total of 4,049 MW in solar modules and 1,441 MW in solar cells, according to a company statement.

Looking ahead to the next financial year, TP Solar aims to produce 3.7 GW of solar cells and 3.725 GW of modules, reinforcing its role in advancing India’s renewable energy goals.

Located in Tirunelveli, TP Solar runs the country’s largest solar cell and module manufacturing facility under one roof. With a designed capacity of 4.3 GW each for cells and modules, the plant includes space for future expansion.

Tata Power, through its renewable energy arm, has invested nearly ₹4,300 crore in developing this facility. The project marks a major move toward strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities and reducing reliance on imports.

The plant uses advanced TOPCon and Mono PERC technologies to manufacture modules certified under the ALMM and compliant with Domestic Content Requirements (DCR), using components made entirely in India. In addition, Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) operates another facility in Bengaluru, producing 682 MW of solar modules and 530 MW of cells, both running at full capacity to meet DCR compliance.

TPREL, a subsidiary of Tata Power, is one of India’s leading renewable energy companies. The firm develops, owns, operates, and maintains a wide range of renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, hybrid, and energy storage solutions. With an impressive portfolio of more than 10.9 GW of renewable energy capacity, TPREL is also at the forefront of solar cell and module manufacturing, producing solar modules at a 4.3 GW capacity. Additionally, the company provides electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions and advisory services across the renewable energy sector.

Tata Power, a part of the Tata Group, is one of India’s most integrated power companies with a portfolio of 15.5 GW across various energy sectors. With 6.7 GW of clean energy capacity, Tata Power is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2045.
