TP Solar Limited, the solar manufacturing arm of The Tata Power Company Limited and a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), produced 1 GW of solar modules and 0.9 GW of solar cells during the second quarter of FY27, covering July to September 2026. For the six months from April to September 2026, the company manufactured a total of 2 GW of solar modules and 1.8 GW of solar cells. The production figures reflect the ramp-up of manufacturing operations at its facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu.
TP Solar operates a 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility at the site, one of India’s largest single-location facilities of its kind. Tata Power, through TPREL, has invested nearly ₹4,300 crore in establishing the plant to strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities across the solar value chain.
The facility manufactures solar cells and modules using Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) and Monocrystalline Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell (Mono PERC) technologies. Its products include modules compliant with Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) norms and models approved under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM). DCR modules are manufactured using cells produced at the facility.
The plant incorporates artificial intelligence and machine learning-based systems and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) to support manufacturing operations, material movement and production efficiency. These technologies are intended to improve process control and support higher levels of automation.
Nearly 80% of the facility’s workforce comprises women, making it a notable example of women’s participation in India’s solar manufacturing sector. The company said its workforce composition reflects its focus on inclusive employment alongside the development of domestic manufacturing capacity.
The facility supports Tata Power’s strategy to expand its presence across the renewable energy value chain and reduce reliance on imported solar components. Domestic production of cells and modules is also aligned with India’s efforts to strengthen local supply chains for renewable energy projects.
The Tata Power Company Limited is a vertically integrated power company and part of the Tata Group. Its total operational and under-construction capacity exceeds 26 GW, including approximately 17.7 GW of clean and green energy capacity and around 8.8 GW of thermal generation capacity.
Tata Power also operates across transmission and distribution, serving more than 13 million customers. Its businesses include over 7,800 circuit kilometres of transmission lines, including projects under development, and an electric vehicle charging network with more than 7,000 public charging points across 717 cities and towns.
The company has established 4.9 GW of integrated solar cell and module manufacturing capacity, signed 2.8 GW of pumped hydro storage projects and set a target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2045. TP Solar’s production performance supports its broader focus on domestic solar manufacturing and the expansion of India’s renewable energy infrastructure.
