TotalEnergies and EDF Group have entered into a long-term strategic partnership to secure low-carbon electricity for industrial operations in France, reinforcing both companies’ commitment to energy transition and industrial sustainability. The agreement, structured as a Nuclear Production Allocation Contract (CAPN), will run for 12 years beginning January 1, 2028. Under the terms of the contract, EDF will allocate a portion of the output from its existing nuclear fleet to TotalEnergies. This allocation is expected to cover approximately 60 percent of the electricity requirements of TotalEnergies’ refining and chemicals sites in France, representing an estimated capacity of 400 MW.

The partnership is designed to provide TotalEnergies with stable access to competitively priced, low-carbon electricity, supporting the decarbonization of its energy-intensive industrial activities. At the same time, the agreement allows EDF to optimize the distribution of its nuclear output while sharing certain operational risks linked to production variability. EDF will retain full responsibility for the operation and management of its nuclear assets.

Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies, described the agreement as a mutually beneficial outcome of constructive collaboration. He emphasized that securing a long-term supply of competitive, low-carbon electricity is essential for maintaining the resilience and competitiveness of the company’s industrial sites in France.

Bernard Fontana, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of EDF Group, highlighted the broader significance of the agreement in strengthening both energy and industrial sovereignty. He noted that ensuring reliable access to low-carbon electricity provides industrial players with the long-term visibility needed to sustain operations and invest in future growth.

EDF Group remains a central player in the global energy transition, with a diversified generation portfolio largely based on nuclear and renewable sources. The company continues to invest in innovative technologies aimed at achieving a carbon-neutral energy future while serving millions of customers worldwide.

TotalEnergies, operating in more than 120 countries, is advancing a multi-energy strategy that includes oil, gas, renewables, and low-carbon solutions. Sustainability remains a core element of its operations, with a focus on delivering reliable, affordable, and cleaner energy. This agreement marks a significant step in aligning industrial energy consumption with low-carbon power generation, supporting France’s broader climate objectives while reinforcing the long-term competitiveness of its industrial sector.
