A consortium formed by France’s TotalEnergies and Saudi Arabia’s Aljomaih Energy & Water (AEW) has been awarded the contract by the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) to develop, construct, and operate a 400-megawatt (MW) solar power facility in AsSufun, Saudi Arabia. The agreement follows a competitive tender under Round 6 of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP). Electricity from the project will be supplied to SPPC under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Once operational in 2027, the plant will generate enough renewable energy to power more than 68,000 homes.

The AsSufun Solar PV Project supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives, which aim to diversify the Kingdom’s energy mix and reduce dependence on liquid fuels. The initiative aligns with national goals to raise the share of renewable energy and storage capacity to nearly 50% of total power generation by 2030, depending on demand growth. This project marks the consortium’s second success in the Saudi NREP and strengthens TotalEnergies’ long-term presence in the Kingdom’s energy landscape.

Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President for Renewables at TotalEnergies, highlighted that the partnership reinforces the company’s commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy ambitions while advancing its multi-energy strategy, which includes refining and petrochemicals. Ibrahim Aljomaih, Chairman of Aljomaih Energy & Water, emphasized that the project is a significant milestone in supporting the Saudi Green Initiative and the Kingdom’s energy transition. Acting CEO Eng. Adnan Buhuligah added that the project will deliver clean electricity to thousands of households, demonstrating the company’s role in building a sustainable and resilient energy future for Saudi Arabia.

This development marks another milestone for TotalEnergies, which already operates the 119 MW Wadi Al Dawasir solar plant and is currently constructing the 300 MW Rabigh 2 project in Saudi Arabia. Globally, TotalEnergies has built a portfolio exceeding 30 GW of renewable generation capacity as of June 2025 and targets 35 GW by the end of 2025, with the goal of producing over 100 TWh of clean electricity annually by 2030.

Established in 2007, Aljomaih Energy & Water is among Saudi Arabia’s leading developers in the utilities and infrastructure sectors, with a total energy generation capacity of 13 GW and water production projects exceeding 1.3 million cubic meters per day across the Middle East and Asia. Both companies are aligned in driving sustainable progress and supporting the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 for a greener, more diversified economy.
