Teledyne e2v, a subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies, has introduced the Caiman™ imaging module, a compact and energy-efficient solution engineered for high-performance imaging in extremely low-light environments. The Caiman module is built around the OnyxMax™ sensor and delivers strong quantum efficiency, high spatial resolution in the near-infrared spectrum, and low noise output. Designed to operate effectively in illumination levels below 1 mlx, it provides enhanced sensitivity for applications where visibility is limited.
The module incorporates a suite of integrated image processing features, including automatic exposure control, noise reduction, histogram equalization, and pixel binning. These capabilities ensure consistent image clarity and performance across varying lighting conditions. Its CMOS-based architecture supports reliable imaging in both daytime and nighttime scenarios.
Engineered with a compact footprint and power consumption below 1 watt, Caiman is suited for extended use in portable and embedded systems. It also supports high frame rates exceeding 120 frames per second, enabling reduced latency and smooth real-time visualization. The inclusion of a MIPI interface allows seamless integration with modern digital vision systems and compatibility with widely used system-on-chip platforms.
Caiman is positioned for a wide range of applications, including night vision, surveillance, laser detection, and scientific research. Its combination of sensitivity, speed, and efficiency addresses the growing demand for advanced imaging solutions in both commercial and defense sectors.
The module will be presented at SPIE Defense + Security 2026, taking place in National Harbor, USA, from April 26 to 30, 2026. Attendees can visit booth 703 to explore the technology and discuss potential use cases. Supporting materials, including documentation, evaluation kits, and software, are available upon request.
