Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited and a leading player in India’s clean energy landscape, has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tata Power Mumbai Distribution for an 80 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project. The project will combine solar, wind, and advanced battery storage to deliver reliable green energy during peak demand hours, strengthening grid resilience and ensuring a steady supply of electricity. Designed to provide four hours of peak power with over 90% assured availability, the initiative directly supports the rising energy needs of Tata Power Mumbai Distribution and its customers.
Expected to be commissioned within 24 months, the project will generate nearly 315 million units of electricity annually while reducing carbon emissions by more than 250,000 tons per year. The clean energy produced will be integrated into Tata Power’s Mumbai distribution system, supplying low-carbon electricity to about 800,000 residential, commercial, and industrial consumers.
This agreement will also help Tata Power Mumbai Distribution meet Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) targets set by the state regulator, underlining Tata Power’s commitment to sustainability and responsible energy growth. With this addition, TPREL’s total renewable portfolio now stands at 11.3 GW, including 9.4 GW under PPAs and 5.7 GW at various stages of implementation. Its operational base of 5.6 GW includes 4.6 GW of solar and 1 GW of wind energy. The company also manages a solar EPC portfolio of over 15.7 GWp in large-scale projects and 3 GW across rooftop and distributed installations.
As part of Tata Power’s integrated energy strategy, this project reinforces the group’s role in driving India’s transition to cleaner power. Tata Power, with a diversified capacity of 15.8 GW spanning generation, transmission, distribution, trading, storage, and solar manufacturing, has already achieved 7 GW of clean energy generation—44% of its total portfolio. Aligned with its Net Zero 2045 target, the company continues to expand access to reliable green energy for millions of consumers nationwide.
Tata Power Company Limited, a core part of the Tata Group, stands as one of India’s leading integrated power utilities. With a diverse generation capacity of 15.7 GW, the company operates across the full energy value chain—including renewable and conventional generation, power transmission and distribution, energy trading, battery storage solutions, and solar module and cell production.
Clean energy makes up 6.9 GW, or 44% of Tata Power’s total capacity. The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality before 2045 and currently supplies electricity to around 12.8 million customers across the country through its collaborations with both public and private sectors.
