Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has signed a power purchase agreement with NTPC Ltd for a 200 MW renewable energy project that includes energy storage. The firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) project will combine solar, wind, and battery storage technologies to ensure reliable power delivery.

Planned across multiple sites in India, the project is expected to be completed within two years. Once operational, it will supply approximately 1,300 million units of electricity annually and help offset over one million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

TPREL secured the project through a competitive bidding process. The hybrid system will be designed to supply power during peak hours for at least four hours daily, with a minimum 90% availability during high-demand periods. This will support the growing energy requirements of distribution utilities.

With this addition, Tata Power Renewable’s total utility-scale renewable portfolio now stands at 10.9 GW. This includes 5.5 GW of operational capacity—4.5 GW from solar and 1 GW from wind—and another 5.4 GW currently under construction, evenly split between solar and wind. These projects are scheduled for phased commissioning over the next six to 24 months.

Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL) is a leading player in India’s renewable energy sector, committed to advancing sustainable power solutions. A subsidiary of Tata Power, TPREL focuses on developing, operating, and maintaining renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and hybrid systems.
