Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a major force in India’s clean energy sector and a subsidiary of Tata Power, has completed NHPC Limited’s 450 MWp (DC) / 300 MW (AC) DCR-compliant solar project as the EPC contractor at Karnisar Bhatiyan in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Executed over two and a half years, the project highlights TPREL’s strong project execution and technical expertise.
Beyond this 300 MW installation, TPREL is also supplying DCR-compliant cells and modules for SJVN’s upcoming 1 GW solar project and NLC’s 300 MW project in Rajasthan, both nearing commissioning and set to become key renewable assets. The plant uses high-efficiency modules manufactured by TP Solar in Tirunelveli, supporting India’s domestic manufacturing ecosystem.
Developed by TPREL, the NHPC-owned project supplies power entirely to PSPCL and is expected to generate roughly 17,230 million units of green energy over its operational life. The project stands out for its innovative engineering despite extreme heat and challenging terrain, with the use of DCR cells, bifacial modules, precision ramming, and high-performance inverters.
A total of around 7,75,000 modules were installed. The initiative also delivered socio-economic benefits by employing over 300 local workers and engaging several local vendors, contributing to regional development. With this commissioning, TPREL strengthens its position as a leading partner for large-scale renewable projects, supporting India’s goals of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070.
TPREL has now commissioned more than 4.9 GW of third-party projects, including 980 MW delivered in the current financial year. Its total renewable utility portfolio stands at 11.6 GW, with 5.8 GW operational—4.7 GW solar and 1.1 GW wind—and another 5.8 GW under development, to be delivered over the coming 6 to 24 months.
Tata Power, part of the Tata Group, manages a diversified 15.9 GW power portfolio across generation, transmission, distribution, trading, storage, and solar manufacturing. With 7.0 GW of clean energy—44% of its total capacity—the company is a key driver of India’s energy transition and aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045, serving nearly 13 million customers nationwide.
