Tata Power has announced the commissioning of two major transmission lines in Uttar Pradesh—400 kV Tanda–Gonda and 400 kV Gonda–Basti double circuit lines—marking the completion of all Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission assets under the South East UP Power Transmission Company Limited (SEUPPTCL) project.

The newly operational lines span a combined length of 154 circuit kilometres and form a critical part of a broader transmission network developed to support the state’s growing electricity requirements. With this milestone, the full SEUPPTCL infrastructure is now in service, significantly enhancing power evacuation and grid reliability across the region.

The completed network includes three 765 kV transmission lines covering 951 circuit kilometres, fourteen 400 kV lines extending over 566 circuit kilometres, and three high-capacity substations with a total transformation capability of 3,460 MVA. Together, these assets create a robust transmission backbone designed to handle large-scale power flows efficiently.

The commissioning of key corridors—including the 765 kV Mainpuri–Bara and Mainpuri–Unnao lines, along with the Tanda–Gonda and Gonda–Basti links—will facilitate the evacuation of more than 4,000 MW of thermal power generated within Uttar Pradesh. This development is expected to improve supply stability, reduce transmission constraints, and support long-term energy security in the state.

Execution of the project involved extensive planning and complex engineering operations. The work included installation of over 45,000 metric tonnes of transmission towers and the stringing of more than 8,600 kilometres of conductors. The project team also completed 139 critical crossings involving existing power lines, railway tracks, highways, rivers, and gas pipelines, while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations during construction in forested areas.

With the addition of these assets, Tata Power’s total operational transmission network has expanded to 5,466 circuit kilometres. A further 1,863 circuit kilometres remain under development, reflecting the company’s ongoing investment in strengthening India’s high-voltage transmission infrastructure.

SEUPPTCL operates under Resurgent Power Ventures, a joint initiative involving Tata Power, ICICI Bank, and international investors, formed to revitalise stressed assets in the power sector. The successful delivery of this project underscores the role of public-private collaboration in advancing critical infrastructure.

Tata Power continues to play a central role in India’s energy landscape, with a diversified portfolio spanning generation, transmission, distribution, and renewable energy. The company remains focused on expanding grid capacity and supporting the country’s transition toward a more resilient and sustainable power ecosystem.
