Trailblazer CO₂ Pipeline, LLC, operated by Tallgrass Energy, has announced the commencement of a binding open season to secure transportation commitments for carbon dioxide (CO₂) volumes from customers in Iowa and Nebraska. The open season began on May 1, 2026, and will remain active for a period of 21 days.
The initiative invites shippers to commit CO₂ volumes captured at designated origin points in exchange for access to transportation services under incentive-based tariff structures. The Trailblazer pipeline is positioned to support the growing demand for carbon management infrastructure, enabling the movement of captured emissions for storage or utilisation.
The open season process is designed to assess market interest and facilitate long-term agreements with customers seeking reliable CO₂ transportation solutions. Participants will have the opportunity to secure capacity and benefit from competitive tariff rates aligned with early commitments.
Tallgrass Energy, which operates the Trailblazer system, is a major player in U.S. energy infrastructure, with assets spanning multiple commodities including natural gas, crude oil and carbon dioxide. The company manages more than 10,000 miles of pipeline networks across 14 states, providing critical connectivity for energy production, transportation and storage.
The Trailblazer CO₂ pipeline forms part of Tallgrass’s broader strategy to expand its carbon capture and transportation capabilities. As industries across the Midwest continue to invest in emissions reduction technologies, pipeline infrastructure is expected to play a key role in enabling large-scale carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) initiatives.
By facilitating the safe and efficient transport of captured CO₂, the project supports efforts to reduce industrial emissions while maintaining operational continuity for key sectors. The pipeline is expected to serve a range of customers, including ethanol producers, industrial facilities and other emitters seeking to lower their carbon footprint.
Tallgrass indicated that the open season will help determine the scale and configuration of future pipeline developments, ensuring that infrastructure investment aligns with customer demand and regulatory requirements. The company continues to focus on delivering energy and environmental solutions that balance reliability, sustainability and economic efficiency.
Further details regarding participation and submission requirements are being made available to prospective customers during the open season period.
