Sundram Fasteners Limited (SFL) has entered the agricultural submersible pump segment with the launch of its new V4 range of 4-inch submersible pumps. The initiative is being introduced as a pilot project and builds on the company’s existing experience in water-pump applications and engineering.

The initial rollout will cover four districts in Tamil Nadu — Tirunelveli, Madurai, Ramanathapuram and Kanyakumari. Tirunelveli will be the first market for the new range, with the launch beginning in August 2026. The move expands Sundram Fasteners’ product offering beyond its established automotive business and allows the company to apply its engineering capabilities to agricultural applications. The V4 pumps have been developed with a focus on reliability and suitability for agricultural requirements.

SV Mahesh, Executive Director, Sundram Fasteners Limited, said the company’s entry into the segment is aimed at understanding the requirements of agricultural customers and developing products suited to rural markets. “Our foray into the submersible pump segment extends our existing experience in the water-pump business and offers an opportunity to apply our engineering capabilities to address the needs of rural India. Through this pilot, we aim to understand the requirements of agricultural customers and develop solutions by building the right product that combines reliability, engineering quality and a support ecosystem,” he said.

The pilot programme will enable SFL to gain direct market understanding and assess customer requirements across key agricultural regions. Based on market response and customer feedback, the company can further evaluate opportunities to expand its presence in the segment.

Agriculture remains an important market for water-management equipment, with submersible pumps widely used for irrigation and groundwater applications. The company’s initial focus on four districts will allow it to establish a local distribution and service network while closely studying operating conditions and customer expectations.

Sundram Fasteners has more than six decades of experience in engineering and manufacturing. Headquartered in Chennai, the company supplies a diversified range of products to customers in the automotive industry and operates manufacturing facilities across three countries.

The company’s engineering capabilities include precision manufacturing and component development, supported by modern production facilities and an experienced workforce. Its entry into agricultural pumps represents an extension of these capabilities into a new application area.

The V4 range will initially be available through the pilot markets in Tamil Nadu. The company plans to use the initial rollout to assess product performance, customer feedback and market requirements before determining its next steps in the agricultural pump business.

The initiative also reflects SFL’s approach of exploring opportunities where its engineering and manufacturing capabilities can address requirements beyond its traditional markets. By combining its water-pump experience with its manufacturing expertise, the company aims to develop dependable solutions for agricultural users while building a stronger presence in the rural equipment segment.
