STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global semiconductor company serving a broad range of electronics applications, has announced its financial results for the first quarter ended March 28, 2026. The company reported net revenues of $3.10 billion for the quarter, with a gross margin of 33.8%. Operating income stood at $70 million, while net income was reported at $37 million, translating to diluted earnings per share of $0.04. On a non-GAAP basis, gross margin was 34.1%, operating income reached $171 million, and net income stood at $122 million, with diluted earnings per share of $0.13.
Jean-Marc Chery, President and CEO of STMicroelectronics, noted that quarterly revenues exceeded the midpoint of the company’s guidance range, supported by strong performance in personal electronics and core customer programs. Improved product mix also contributed to better-than-expected margins during the period.
On a year-on-year basis, the company recorded revenue growth of 23%, reflecting strengthening demand across key segments. Excluding contributions from the acquisition of NXP Semiconductors’ MEMS sensor business, revenue growth remained robust at over 21%. The company highlighted stable operating performance despite ongoing macroeconomic uncertainties.
STMicroelectronics also reported improving market conditions, with stronger order bookings and normalization of inventory levels across distribution channels. This trend is expected to support continued momentum in the coming quarters.
Looking ahead, the company has provided a positive outlook for the second quarter of 2026. At the midpoint, net revenues are projected to reach $3.45 billion, reflecting sequential growth of 11.6% and year-on-year growth of nearly 25%. Gross margin is expected to be around 34.8%, with non-GAAP gross margin estimated at approximately 35.2%.
The company also emphasized its strategic positioning to capitalize on opportunities arising from the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence-driven applications. Leveraging its specialized technologies, STMicroelectronics is targeting increased participation in AI infrastructure, particularly in data center applications. Revenue from this segment is expected to exceed $500 million in 2026 and surpass $1 billion by 2027.
