Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar) has decided to invest $4 million (approximately ₹34.6 crore) in ClearMotion Inc., a US-based automotive technology company, through convertible preferred stock, according to an official filing. The investment has been approved by Sona Comstar’s board.

ClearMotion develops innovative products that enhance the ride experience in vehicles, using proactive suspension and road sensing technology to reduce vehicle movement on uneven surfaces. The company operates in the US, UK, and China.

Sona Comstar highlighted that ClearMotion’s active suspension system, driven by a BLDC motor-controller-based actuator, offers significantly lower latency—five times less—compared to other market alternatives. This technology is already being produced for the Nio ET9, and with this investment, Sona Comstar aims to establish a strong partnership with ClearMotion, combining their roles as investor and supplier to drive mutual growth.

ClearMotion posted a revenue of $4 million in 2023, and Sona Comstar expects the investment deal to close by March. Additionally, Sona Comstar’s board formed a new merger and acquisition committee in April to explore investment, divestment, strategic alliances, and technological partnerships. Recently, Sona Comstar also acquired Novelic, a radar sensor company based in Serbia, and is in the process of purchasing Escorts Kubota’s railway equipment business for ₹1,600 crore, marking its move into the wider mobility sector.
