Siemens has announced that Sahajanand Medical Technologies Ltd (SMT), a leading manufacturer of cardiovascular medical devices, has implemented Teamcenter®, the product lifecycle management (PLM) software from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, to create a connected digital platform for product development, quality management and regulatory compliance.
The deployment marks a significant milestone in SMT’s digital transformation journey and is aimed at strengthening collaboration across business functions while supporting the company’s expanding global operations. By establishing a digital thread that links engineering, quality and program management, SMT expects to improve product development efficiency and maintain compliance with international medical device regulations.
The new PLM platform creates a centralized repository for managing product information, enabling teams across the organization to access consistent and up-to-date data throughout the product lifecycle. This integrated approach is designed to simplify collaboration, improve decision-making and reduce development timelines while maintaining high standards of quality and regulatory compliance.
As part of the implementation, SMT has digitized key product lifecycle processes to support adherence to stringent global standards, including US FDA 21 CFR Part 820 and ISO 13485. The platform also provides end-to-end traceability across the product lifecycle, connecting requirements, design, manufacturing and quality processes within a single digital environment.
Commenting on the deployment, Girish Kewalramani, Chief Information Officer, Sahajanand Medical Technologies Ltd, said the implementation of Teamcenter establishes a strong digital foundation that brings engineering and quality teams onto a common platform. He noted that as the company expands its international footprint, a connected approach to managing product information will help support regulatory compliance while accelerating the development and delivery of innovative cardiovascular technologies.
SMT is utilizing several advanced capabilities within Teamcenter, including collaboration tools, product classification, program planning and schedule management. The solution also supports industry-specific processes such as design history files (DHF), device master records (DMR), engineering change management, testing and verification activities, ensuring complete visibility and traceability throughout product development.
Mathew Thomas, Vice President and Managing Director, India, Siemens Digital Industries Software, said medical device manufacturers are increasingly required to manage complex products while meeting evolving regulatory expectations. He added that Teamcenter helps organizations connect product development and quality functions, providing greater visibility, collaboration and traceability that enable faster innovation without compromising compliance.
The implementation was carried out by ThinkInnov Solutions, Siemens’ implementation partner, which provided end-to-end deployment, system configuration and user onboarding services. The project has established a unified PLM environment across SMT’s research and development and quality teams, helping digitize workflows from initial product requirements and risk assessment through product release and engineering change management.
