Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited has expanded its research and development capabilities with the inauguration of a new wing at its Technology Centre Pune (TCP) in Baner. The facility, spread across 33,000 square feet, marks a significant step in strengthening the company’s engineering footprint in India.
The newly launched Baner facility is designed to support advanced vehicle development, platform engineering, software innovation, and sustainable mobility solutions. Located within Pune city, the centre enhances accessibility and collaboration while complementing the company’s existing R&D operations at Chakan.
With this expansion, the total engineering workforce at the Technology Centre Pune now exceeds 450 professionals, working on both domestic and global projects. The move reflects the company’s continued investment in local talent and its focus on aligning product development with evolving customer preferences in India and international markets.
As part of the global R&D network of the Volkswagen Group, the new wing strengthens India’s role as a key development hub. The centre contributes to localisation efforts, supports export programs, and ensures adherence to global standards in quality, safety, and technology.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of Škoda Auto Volkswagen India, stated that the expansion represents a key milestone in the company’s growth journey in India. He noted that the addition of the Baner facility increases engineering capacity and enhances the ability to deliver globally competitive solutions with greater speed and localisation.
Established in 2019, the Technology Centre Pune at Chakan has played a critical role in developing vehicles tailored for the Indian market. It has contributed to the creation of models such as the Volkswagen Taigun, Škoda Kushaq, and Škoda Kylaq, which are designed and manufactured locally.
Headquartered in Pune, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India oversees the operations of multiple brands, including Škoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, and Bentley. The company operates manufacturing facilities in Chakan and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, with a combined annual production capacity of 315,000 units.
India continues to play a strategic role for the group as both a manufacturing and export hub, with over 700,000 vehicles shipped to more than 40 countries. The company surpassed 2 million locally produced vehicles in 2025, reflecting sustained growth and localisation efforts.
