Sigma Advanced Systems Limited has completed the sale of its entire 36.52 percent equity stake in Extrovis AG, a pharmaceutical company headquartered in Switzerland. The transaction generated approximately $15 million (around ₹137.61 crore), providing additional capital to support Sigma’s continued expansion in the aerospace and defence sector.
The divestment forms part of the company’s broader strategy to streamline its investment portfolio and concentrate on its core operations. By exiting a non-core pharmaceutical investment, Sigma is directing financial resources toward strengthening its position as a specialized aerospace and defence manufacturing platform.
According to the company, the proceeds from the transaction will help enhance manufacturing capabilities, support potential acquisitions and expand Sigma’s role within global aerospace and defence supply chains.
Sunil Kalidindi, Chief Executive Officer of Sigma Advanced Systems, said the decision reflects the company’s strategic direction as it continues to build a global presence in the aerospace and defence industry. He explained that aligning capital allocation with the company’s long-term priorities is essential as Sigma scales its operations and expands international partnerships.
The divestment also strengthens the company’s balance sheet and provides flexibility to pursue opportunities that support future growth, including investments in advanced manufacturing technologies and strategic collaborations with global defence organizations. Sigma has recently expanded its international footprint through a series of acquisitions. The company acquired AS Strategic, a defence and space-focused firm based in Delhi that maintains extensive links with European defence companies. AS Strategic operates through joint ventures and long-term partnerships with several global defence original equipment manufacturers.
This acquisition complements Sigma’s earlier purchase of the Nasmyth Group in the United Kingdom. The Nasmyth Group strengthened Sigma’s manufacturing presence across Europe and expanded its capabilities in precision engineering, advanced manufacturing processes and Tier-1 supply chain integration.
While the Nasmyth acquisition enhanced Sigma’s industrial capacity, the addition of AS Strategic strengthens its access to major defence programs and relationships with international customers. Together, the two acquisitions allow Sigma to participate more deeply in complex global defence projects while maintaining manufacturing operations and technical expertise in India.
The company has also continued to expand its order pipeline. Recently, Sigma secured new contracts worth approximately ₹100 crore from the Ministry of Defence and associated defence public sector undertakings. These contracts involve the supply of defence electronics and other mission-critical systems used in national security applications.
Defence manufacturing projects typically require long qualification cycles and strict reliability standards, and Sigma’s ability to meet these requirements has helped build long-term relationships with customers in the sector.Going forward, the company plans to pursue growth through both organic expansion and targeted acquisitions. Management indicated that several potential opportunities are currently under evaluation as Sigma continues to expand its global capabilities.
