Siemens Ltd electrifies India’s Longest Railway Tunnel

Siemens Ltd has played a crucial role in electrifying a substantial 42-kilometer stretch, which includes the longest rail tunnel in the Pir Panjal range, spanning 12.8 kilometers along the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link.

This initiative is part of the extensive Jammu-Udhampur-Katra-Quazigund-Baramulla Railway Line project by Indian Railways, representing one of the most significant mountain railway line constructions since India gained independence. The railway line covers a distance of 345 kilometers at an elevation of approximately 1,700 meters above sea level.

Siemens Ltd’s involvement encompassed the comprehensive provision of services, ranging from design and engineering to the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of 25 kV overhead equipment and related infrastructure. Gunjan Vakharia, Head of Mobility Business at Siemens Ltd, expressed immense pride in the company’s contribution to this nationally significant project.

Despite facing challenges such as extreme temperatures and uncharted terrain, the installation team exhibited remarkable dedication, ensuring the successful completion of the project. Vakharia extended gratitude to Indian Railways for their unwavering trust and support, highlighting its commitment to delivering excellence in infrastructure development.
