Shakti Pumps (India) Ltd has been awarded a Letter of Empanelment by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co Ltd for the deployment of 6,580 off-grid solar photovoltaic water pumping systems across Maharashtra. The order has been issued under the state government’s Magel Tyala Saur Krushi Pump Yojana, a key initiative focused on promoting solar-powered irrigation in rural and off-grid regions.
The project involves the installation of solar pumping systems with capacities of 3 HP, 5 HP and 7.5 HP, designed to cater to varying irrigation requirements. Shakti Pumps will undertake the complete scope of the project, including design, manufacturing, supply, transportation, installation, testing and commissioning of the systems.
The total value of the order stands at approximately ₹155.24 crore, inclusive of applicable taxes. The company is expected to complete execution within a period of 60 days from the date of issuance of the work order, reflecting a time-bound approach to project delivery.
The Magel Tyala Saur Krushi Pump Yojana is aimed at improving access to irrigation for farmers in regions with limited or no grid connectivity. By enabling the use of solar-powered pumps, the initiative supports the transition to sustainable agricultural practices while reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.
The deployment of these systems is expected to benefit a large number of small and marginal farmers by ensuring reliable water supply for irrigation. Solar-powered pumps not only lower operational costs by eliminating fuel dependency but also contribute to reducing carbon emissions, aligning with broader environmental goals.
Shakti Pumps has been actively involved in the solar water pumping segment and continues to expand its presence through large-scale projects across different states. The company’s integrated capabilities in manufacturing and execution position it to deliver solutions that meet both performance and sustainability requirements.
With this order, the company further strengthens its role in supporting government-led initiatives focused on renewable energy adoption in agriculture. The project also reflects growing demand for decentralized solar solutions in rural India, particularly in areas where grid infrastructure remains limited.
The increased adoption of solar irrigation systems is seen as a key step in improving farm productivity while promoting energy efficiency. By leveraging solar technology, such projects contribute to long-term resilience in the agricultural sector and help farmers manage water resources more effectively.
