Sembcorp Industries, through its wholly owned renewable energy subsidiary, Sembcorp Green Infra Private Limited, has been awarded a 150-megawatt Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project by SJVN Limited. The project forms part of SJVN’s large-scale 6,000MWh (1,500MW x 4 hours) initiative aimed at delivering assured peak power through Inter-State Transmission System-connected renewable projects integrated with energy storage solutions.
To deliver the contracted capacity, Sembcorp will develop approximately 750 megawatts of combined solar and battery energy storage systems in India. The project will operate on a build-own-operate model and will move forward following the signing of a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with SJVN. Commercial operations are expected within 24 months of PPA execution, with the investment financed through a mix of internal funds and debt.
“This award represents a major milestone in Sembcorp’s mission to provide reliable and sustainable energy in India,” said A Nithyanand, CEO, Renewables Business, India, Sembcorp Industries. “With a robust development pipeline exceeding 4GW of solar and wind capacity and more than 1.4GWh of battery storage under development, we are well positioned to support India’s growing need for round-the-clock renewable power.”
The addition of this project lifts Sembcorp’s total gross renewables capacity in India to over 7.6GW, strengthening its role as one of the country’s leading renewable energy players. Globally, Sembcorp’s renewable portfolio now stands at 20.1GW, including projects currently pending completion.
This latest win reinforces Sembcorp’s long-term commitment to accelerating the clean energy transition through firm, flexible, and sustainable power generation solutions that support India’s journey toward a greener energy future. Sembcorp Green Infra, incorporated in 2008, has built a significant presence across 18 Indian states, with a diversified portfolio of wind and solar projects. It is among the country’s leading independent power producers with one of the largest self-operated wind energy portfolios in India.
Backed by strong in-house capabilities in project development, engineering, and execution, Sembcorp Green Infra has consistently scaled its operations by independently deploying clean energy projects. The company also leverages digital platforms to improve asset performance and operational efficiency.
As part of Sembcorp Industries, a global provider of energy and sustainable urban solutions, Sembcorp Green Infra plays a vital role in advancing the Group’s commitment to a low-carbon future. The acquisition of ReNew Sun Bright further strengthens that commitment, expanding the company’s solar footprint and long-term project pipeline in India.
