Seco Tools has launched its new Jetstream Tooling® M-Clamp toolholder system, engineered to improve performance in high-demand machining applications through enhanced cooling efficiency, stronger insert security, and advanced clamp design using additive manufacturing. The new system is designed for large insert machining operations and integrates targeted high-pressure coolant delivery directly to the cutting zone.

By combining a 3D-printed clamp structure with a secondary DUO JET outlet, the system delivers precise cooling where it is most needed. This approach helps maintain lower cutting temperatures, improving stability and extending tool performance.

According to the company, the M-Clamp system can increase tool life by at least 30 percent while improving chip evacuation and surface finish quality. These benefits are particularly relevant when machining difficult materials such as stainless steel and heat-resistant superalloys, where heat management and chip control are critical.

A key feature of the system is its additively manufactured clamp, positioned away from the cutting edge to reduce exposure to chip impact. This design minimises wear caused by chip hammering and enhances overall process reliability. The result is reduced tool replacement frequency, lower machine downtime, and improved consistency in production cycles.

The M-Clamp system also introduces double clamping security for both negative and round positive inserts. A combination of a centre-lock screw and a top clamp provides increased stability and resistance to insert movement, supporting safer and more predictable machining performance under heavy loads.

Flexibility and productivity have been further improved through a shared key slot design and a twist-function mechanism, enabling faster insert changes and simplified indexing. These features are intended to reduce setup time and improve operational efficiency in high-volume manufacturing environments.

Additive manufacturing plays a central role in the system’s design, allowing clamps to be customised for specific machining requirements. This level of adaptability provides manufacturers with options that traditional clamp systems cannot easily achieve, particularly in complex or specialised applications.

Fredrik Samuelsson, Global Product Manager for ISO Toolholders at Seco Tools, stated that the development of the Jetstream Tooling M-Clamp system was focused on addressing practical challenges faced by machinists, including inconsistent coolant delivery, clamp wear, and extended tool change times. He noted that the new solution was developed to improve reliability, efficiency, and ease of use in demanding production environments.
