SCHOTTEL has announced the establishment of SCHOTTEL India Sales and Service Private Limited, a new subsidiary that strengthens the company’s presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing maritime markets. The move reflects SCHOTTEL’s long-term commitment to supporting India’s expanding shipbuilding industry and enhancing service capabilities for customers across naval and commercial marine sectors.
Headquartered in Pune, the new subsidiary will oversee sales activities for both newbuild and retrofit projects while providing comprehensive after-sales support for propulsion systems. By establishing a direct presence in the country, SCHOTTEL aims to offer closer customer engagement, faster response times, and lifecycle support tailored to local operational requirements.
India continues to emerge as a strategic market for maritime technology providers, supported by sustained investments in naval modernization, commercial shipbuilding, port infrastructure, and maritime development initiatives. As vessel operators seek efficient and reliable propulsion technologies, SCHOTTEL’s portfolio is positioned to support a broad range of applications, from defense vessels to commercial fleets.
The company has appointed Naresh Kumar Gathania as Managing Director of SCHOTTEL India. Bringing more than two decades of experience across the maritime, defense, aerospace, and heavy engineering sectors, Gathania will lead the subsidiary’s growth strategy and customer engagement efforts.
His professional background includes leadership roles in sales, service, and business development, with extensive experience supporting marine engine operations and aftermarket services. He has worked closely with key stakeholders in India’s maritime sector, including naval and coast guard organizations. Prior to entering the private sector, he served in the Indian Navy, gaining valuable operational and technical expertise in marine engineering.
Under his leadership, SCHOTTEL India will focus on building strong local capabilities while leveraging the company’s global engineering expertise and technology resources. The subsidiary intends to support customers through a combination of technical consultation, project support, and responsive service throughout the operational life of installed propulsion systems.
Pune was selected as the location for the new office due to its strong engineering talent base, industrial ecosystem, and proximity to important shipbuilding centers and marine equipment manufacturers. The subsidiary will begin operations with a dedicated team supporting administration, sales, and after-sales service functions.
The launch of SCHOTTEL India represents an important step in the company’s international growth strategy. By establishing a local presence, SCHOTTEL is creating a stronger platform to collaborate with customers, industry partners, and shipbuilders while contributing to the continued advancement of India’s maritime capabilities and infrastructure development.
