Schmersal Global Competence Center (SGCC), the engineering and digital technology arm of the Schmersal Group, has inaugurated a new 25,000 sq. ft. facility in Pune, marking a major expansion of its operations in India. The company also opened a dedicated Product Experience Center and introduced six new “Make in India” industrial safety products, reinforcing its focus on engineering innovation, digital technologies and locally manufactured safety solutions for domestic and international markets.
Located at AP4 Tech Park in Wagholi, the new campus has been developed to support the company’s growing engineering, software development and product innovation activities. The expanded infrastructure is expected to enhance collaboration across global teams while increasing the Centre’s capacity to deliver advanced machine safety technologies and digital engineering solutions.
The Product Experience Center has been established to demonstrate Schmersal’s integrated machine safety portfolio and showcase practical applications across manufacturing, logistics, automotive, warehousing, infrastructure and vertical transportation sectors. The facility also highlights the company’s engineering services and digital safety capabilities delivered through tec.nicum, Schmersal’s global machine safety consulting division.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramji Singh, Managing Director, Schmersal India and Schmersal Global Competence Center, said the expansion represents an important milestone in the company’s long-term growth strategy. He noted that relocating to a larger, company-owned facility will strengthen engineering capabilities, digital solutions, innovation and automation while enabling the organisation to offer more comprehensive safety solutions aligned with evolving industrial requirements. He added that the expanded campus creates an environment that encourages innovation, supports future growth and strengthens customer engagement.
Alongside the facility expansion, Schmersal introduced six products manufactured in India to address evolving industrial automation and safety requirements. The newly launched portfolio includes the Safety Field Box Port Extender, designed to improve connectivity and expand field-level integration in complex industrial systems. The company also introduced a Magnetic Switch developed for reliable position monitoring in elevator applications, offering compliance with European standards while remaining cost-effective.
Other launches include the Fork Sensor, an infrared-based solution for precise object detection; a new Safety Limit Switch Series engineered for demanding industrial environments; an Overspeed Governor Limit Switch for enhanced elevator safety; and a Multi-level Parking Control System that enables secure, key-operated vehicle movement across automated parking facilities. These additions expand Schmersal’s portfolio of machine safety products while supporting safer and more efficient industrial operations.
Visitors to the Product Experience Center can explore a wide range of technologies, including machine guarding systems, access control solutions, safety interlocks, software-enabled machine safety platforms and engineering services. Demonstrations also highlight how digital technologies and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platforms can improve industrial safety management through connected and intelligent applications.
The expanded campus will also serve as a talent development hub, providing modern infrastructure for engineering, software development, embedded systems, SAP, Microsoft technologies, IoT and digital transformation projects. The company expects the new facility to strengthen collaboration with global Schmersal operations while attracting skilled engineering professionals.
The occasion also coincides with 13 years of Schmersal’s manufacturing operations in India. Since establishing its manufacturing facility at MIDC Ranjangaon in 2013, the company has steadily expanded its local production capabilities while supplying products to both domestic and international markets.
Founded in Germany in 1945, the Schmersal Group operates eight manufacturing facilities across four continents, maintains a presence in more than 60 countries and employs over 2,000 people worldwide. In India, Schmersal has been operating since 2007, supported by manufacturing operations, more than 30 channel partners and a growing engineering ecosystem led by the Schmersal Global Competence Center.
