Sandvik has signed an agreement to acquire Italy-based Diemme Filtration, a leading provider of filtration and dewatering solutions for the global mining industry. The acquisition marks Sandvik’s entry into the filtration and dewatering segment and further strengthens its capabilities across the mining value chain. Following completion of the transaction, Diemme Filtration will operate as a new standalone division, Filtration, within Sandvik’s Rock Processing business area.
The acquisition represents a significant step in Sandvik’s strategy to expand its presence in high-growth segments of downstream mining. Filtration and dewatering are essential processes in mineral processing, playing a critical role in improving operational efficiency, maximizing water recovery, and supporting responsible tailings management. The global market for filtration solutions is estimated to exceed SEK 20 billion, offering substantial opportunities for future growth.
Diemme Filtration has built a strong reputation for its high-performance filter presses and engineered filtration systems that serve mining operations worldwide. In addition to its equipment portfolio, the company has developed a growing aftermarket business that provides recurring revenue opportunities through spare parts, maintenance, and service support. The company also offers advanced digital solutions, including proprietary software for remote monitoring and predictive maintenance, enhancing operational reliability and process performance.
Commenting on the acquisition, Stefan Widing, President and CEO of Sandvik, said the addition of Diemme Filtration strengthens the company’s position in an attractive niche within mineral processing. He noted that the business complements Sandvik’s existing portfolio, expands relationships with key mining customers, and adds a profitable aftermarket platform with significant growth potential.
Market demand for filtration technologies continues to increase as mining companies face evolving operational and environmental challenges. Lower ore grades are resulting in higher slurry volumes, driving the need for greater filtration capacity. At the same time, stricter regulations governing water use and tailings management are encouraging investments in technologies that improve water conservation and enable denser tailings disposal.
Richard Harris, President of Sandvik Rock Processing, said the acquisition aligns closely with the company’s commitment to eco-efficient rock processing. He added that integrating Diemme Filtration’s solutions with Sandvik’s global service network will create opportunities to deliver enhanced customer value and expand aftermarket support.
Headquartered in Lugo, Italy, Diemme Filtration operates a modern manufacturing facility supported by advanced research and development capabilities. The company employs approximately 200 people and serves a diverse customer base across copper, gold, nickel, and battery materials mining sectors.
