Saipem has been awarded a new offshore contract in Saudi Arabia valued at approximately $500 million under its existing Long-Term Agreement with Saudi Aramco. The contract was issued in the form of a Contract Release Purchase Order (CRPO) and will involve the development of critical pipeline infrastructure in the Safaniya oil field.
Under the agreement, Saipem will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) of a major pipeline system designed to support offshore oil production in the region. The project includes the installation of a 48-inch trunkline pipeline, consisting of roughly 65 kilometers of offshore pipeline and 12 kilometers of onshore pipeline, along with the construction of associated subsea facilities within the Safaniya field.
Safaniya is widely recognized as one of the largest offshore oil fields in the world, making the development of supporting infrastructure essential for maintaining production efficiency and long-term energy supply. Saipem plans to conduct offshore construction activities using vessels that are already operating in the region. These specialized vessels are equipped to handle complex offshore installation operations, including pipeline laying and subsea infrastructure work.
Fabrication work for the project will take place at Saipem Taqa Al-Rushaid Fabricators Co Ltd, the company’s fabrication yard located in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. Utilizing local facilities for fabrication activities strengthens Saipem’s industrial presence within the Kingdom while supporting regional workforce development and industrial capacity.
The project will rely on Saipem’s engineering expertise and long-standing experience in delivering large-scale offshore pipeline and infrastructure developments across global energy markets. Throughout project execution, Saipem will adhere to strict operational standards for safety, quality assurance, and environmental protection. These standards form a central part of the company’s project management approach and are designed to ensure reliability and efficiency across all phases of construction and installation.
The integration of local fabrication capabilities with advanced engineering and offshore installation technology is expected to support the efficient implementation of the Safaniya pipeline infrastructure. The contract further reinforces Saipem’s long-standing presence in Saudi Arabia and its ongoing collaboration with Saudi Aramco. Over the years, the company has been involved in numerous offshore and onshore energy infrastructure projects across the region.
Saipem is recognized globally as a leading engineering and construction company specializing in large-scale energy and infrastructure projects. Its operations span both offshore and onshore developments across multiple sectors.
The company operates through several business lines including Asset-Based Services, Drilling, Energy Carriers, Offshore Wind, and Sustainable Infrastructures. Saipem maintains five fabrication yards and operates an offshore fleet of 17 construction vessels, along with 12 drilling rigs, nine of which are company-owned.
With operations in more than 50 countries and a workforce of approximately 30,000 employees from over 130 nationalities, Saipem continues to support global energy infrastructure development while advancing technologies and processes aligned with environmental sustainability and the global transition toward lower-carbon energy systems.
