Fronius India, Indian Railways, and the Indian Welding Society are coming together for the very first time in the country to recognise the skills of welders by organising a national level rolling stock welding championship. The regional level of the contest will be held from 5th to 10th of April 2021, and at four locations – Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata and Pune.
Commenting about the contest Vishwanath Kamath, Managing Director of Fronius India Private Limited said, “this is a small step from all of us to bring the welders to the forefront & limelight. Welding deserves its due recognition and we wish all the participants a huge success.” Mr Kamath thanked all the sponsors as well as the stakeholders of the venues where the competition is going to be hosted.

The contest is open only for the rolling stock (locomotives, carriages, wagons, or other vehicles used on a railway) welders. The regional level contestants were initially selected and will be contesting on their respective South, West, East and North regions. The winners of the regional level will be qualified for the finals to be held in the coming days, which will be announced by the organisers.
The championship is sponsored and facilitated by Jindal Steel Limited, Hindalco Industries of Aditya Birla Group, Delhi based Modi Hitech India Ltd, Outokumpu, Braithwaite & Company, and AK Garg Engineering College, Ghaziabad.
“When we intend, we need to start somewhere. This is just a baby step before taking the big leap towards building a robust ecosystem making India capable enough to become a part of the Global Supply Chain for the Rolling Stock”, said Ashish Kumar Apte, Segment Manager National for Commercial Transportation & New Businesses, Fronius India. “This is first of its kind Welding Competition for the Indian Rolling Stock Industry”, he added.

Mr Apte also congratulated the welders who have made it to the regional leg of the competition from the Indian Rolling Stock Industry. "We have had a good start, and in the coming weeks, this is going to be even more exciting. Welders, men & women from the Indian Rolling Stock Industry plays a key role in the commercial transportation segment, and will get a chance to demonstrate their welding skills", added Mr. Apte.
