Rhetan TMT, a prominent steel manufacturer, has relocated its planned solar project to a new site in Banaskantha, Gujarat, after encountering challenges with the original location in Aravalli. The company has finalized a land lease agreement for the new site, where it will set up a 2 MW solar power plant. The necessary orders for the plant’s installation have already been placed, and the Gujarat Energy Development Agency has granted provisional approval for the project.
The company has also applied for connectivity approval from the Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation, with the expectation of receiving the approval by mid-January. Once operational, the solar plant’s energy will be used to power Rhetan TMT’s steel manufacturing facility in Kadi, Gujarat. The full implementation of the solar plant is slated for completion by April-May 2025.
Despite initial delays caused by the previous site challenges, the new location aligns with the company’s strategic goals and project timelines. Rhetan TMT aims to benefit from lower energy costs once the solar plant is up and running by mid-2025. The project is part of the company’s broader expansion efforts, which also include a capacity increase at the Kadi plant to 45,000 tonnes per year.
