Quectel Wireless Solutions, a global provider of IoT solutions, has announced the launch of the AR588MA, the industry’s first 5G-Advanced automotive-grade cellular module compliant with the 3GPP Release 18 standard. The module is designed to support next-generation vehicle connectivity with a focus on performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

Built on MediaTek’s MT2739 platform, the AR588MA supports 5G-Advanced communication and includes both NB-NTN and NR-NTN satellite connectivity. It also supports Dual SIM Dual Active (DSDA) functionality, enabling improved connection stability, and incorporates intelligent driving scenario recognition. Designed in line with the AEC-Q104 Grade 2 automotive standard, the module is suitable for in-vehicle and on-roof applications such as smart antennas, with enhanced temperature tolerance.

Commenting on the launch, Min Wang, President of Quectel’s Automotive Business Unit, said that the transition to 5G-Advanced addresses the growing connectivity needs of modern vehicles, including higher data speeds, lower latency, and consistent performance. He added that the AR588MA reflects Quectel’s focus on supporting the development of connected and intelligent vehicles.

The module is designed to meet the requirements of advanced driver assistance and intelligent driving systems, offering high modem performance, improved uplink capacity, and low latency to support real-time data processing while maintaining stable network connections. Its intelligent connectivity features allow the module to automatically select the most suitable connection mode based on operating conditions, helping improve network stability and user experience.

The AR588MA also integrates dual-band GNSS supporting L1 and L5 frequencies with up to 30 Hz output. Drawing on Quectel’s experience in automotive wireless design, the module features a six-port antenna architecture combined with proprietary antenna and power compensation technologies to support wide-area and high-performance connectivity. Compliance with automotive-grade standards ensures reliable operation under demanding environmental conditions.

In addition, the module supports European eCall, NG eCall, and AECS (China eCall) systems, ensuring readiness for current and future emergency communication requirements. It is drop-in compatible with Quectel’s AG581A, AG56xN, and AG519M series, allowing customers to shorten development timelines.
