Primetals Technologies has secured a major order from Lidao New Energy (Anhui) to supply seven Technology Control System (TCS) packages for a new aluminum foil mill project in Wuhe, Bengbu City, Anhui Province, China. The project will support the production of high-quality battery aluminum foil, a critical material used in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, energy storage systems, and other clean energy applications.
The order also marks the deployment of Primetals Technologies’ latest electric flatness control solutions, including the Integrated Solenoid Valve Electric (ISV-E) and Integrated Solenoid Valve Electric Compact (ISV-EC) systems. These advanced technologies are designed to deliver highly accurate flatness control during the aluminum foil rolling process, helping manufacturers meet the stringent quality standards required for battery applications.
As part of the project, Primetals Technologies will supply Technology Control Systems, Air Bearing ShapeMeter (ABSM) rolls for precise strip shape measurement, and ISV spray systems for all seven foil mills. The systems will be commissioned in phases and are expected to become fully operational by 2027.
The Air Bearing ShapeMeter technology continuously measures strip flatness during production, while the ISV spray system provides accurate cooling and lubrication of the work rolls. Together, these technologies improve process stability, enhance product quality, and ensure consistent flatness across ultra-thin aluminum foil used in advanced battery manufacturing.
Lidao New Energy selected Primetals Technologies after evaluating its extensive experience in flatness control systems. The company’s ISV technology has been installed in more than 650 rolling mills worldwide, making it one of the industry’s most widely adopted roll cooling solutions. The newly introduced fully electric ISV-E and ISV-EC systems further improve accuracy, energy efficiency, and operational reliability while reducing maintenance requirements.
The ISV spray bars are designed and assembled in the United Kingdom using high-precision manufacturing standards. Primetals Technologies will also provide engineering, installation, commissioning, and long-term technical support to ensure reliable operation throughout the lifecycle of the equipment.
The latest contract further strengthens the long-standing relationship between Primetals Technologies and Lidao New Energy. In 2022, Lidao placed an order for eight Technology Control System packages, Air Bearing ShapeMeter rolls, and ISV spray bar systems. With the new project, Primetals Technologies has now supplied technology for two aluminum cold rolling mills and six foil mill projects for the company.
